Margit Varga
Margit Varga (1908–2005) was an American artist, gallerist, journalist, art director, and art editor. Her artwork has been described as "magical realism" and her work was known in the New York City-area and in Europe. Varga owned a Midtown art gallery for emerging artists in the 1930s. She was an art authority and served as a judge for art exhibitions in the 1930s and 1940s. For 40 years Varga worked for Time magazine. Biography Margit Varga was born on May 5, 1908, in the Upper East Side in New York City, to parents from Hungary. She studied art at the National Academy of Design; and at the Art Students League of New York, under Boardman Johnson and Robert Laurent. She owned the Painters' and Sculptors' Gallery at 22 East 11th Street in Midtown in 1932. The gallery showed emerging artists for the next 3 years. Gilcrease Museum
Gilcrease Museum, also known as the Thomas Gilcrease Institute of American History and Art, is a museum northwest of downtown Tulsa, Oklahoma housing the world's largest, most comprehensive collection of art of the American West, as well as a growing collection of art and artifacts from Central and South America. The museum is named for Thomas Gilcrease, an oil man and avid art collector, who began the collection. He deeded the collection, as well as the building and property, to the City of Tulsa in 1958. Since July 1, 2008, Gilcrease Museum has been managed by a public-private partnership of the City of Tulsa and the University of Tulsa. Archives Of American Art
The Archives of American Art is the largest collection of primary resources documenting the history of the visual arts in the United States. More than 20 million items of original material are housed in the Archives' research centers in Washington, D.C. and New York City. As a research center within the Smithsonian Institution, the Archives houses materials related to a variety of American visual art and artists. All regions of the country and numerous eras and art movements are represented.
