Margiris ,,Margo" Normantas (born 27 October 1996) is a Lithuanian professional basketball player for Rytas Vilnius of the Lithuanian Basketball League (LKL). Standing at , he mainly plays at the shooting guard position. Early career Before starting his professional career, Normantas played for KM-Citus Vilnius in the third-tier RKL, averaging 15.8 points, 3.7 rebounds and 4.8 assists in the 2014–15 season. Professional career In September 2015, Normantas signed a long-term contract with Lietuvos rytas Vilnius and was subsequently loaned to BC Perlas-MRU of the National Basketball League (NKL). In his first season with the team, he averaged 10.4 points, 2.8 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.8 steals per game. In the 2016–17 season, his production increased to 15.3 points, 3.7 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 2.1 steals per game. The Lithuania men's national basketball team ( lt, Lietuvos nacionalinė vyrų krepšinio rinktinė) represents Lithuania in international basketball competitions. They are controlled by the Lithuanian Basketball Federation, the governing body for basketball in Lithuania. The National Basketball League (NKL) (), also known as 7bet-NKL for sponsorship reasons, is the second-tier basketball minor league in Lithuania. It is placed below the top division Lietuvos krepšinio lyga (LKL). The competition currently consists of 14 teams. The champions of the league have the option to promote to the LKL. However, this rarely happens, as most clubs do not meet the requirements for budget and seating capacity. Margiris or Margis (died 25 February 1336) was a medieval Lithuanian/Samogitian prince, mentioned by Caspar Schütz, via Wigand of Marburg, as the heroic defender of Pilėnai fortress in 1336. Not able to defend the fortress against the Teutonic Order, Margiris and other defenders decided to commit a mass suicide, burning the castle and leaving no loot for the enemy. This episode from the Lithuanian Crusade was popularized during the 19th-century wave of romantic nationalism and Margiris is treated as a national hero in Lithuania. Biography Very little is known about Margiris' life.
