Margherita Spiluttini (16 October 1947 – 2 March 2023) was an Austrian photographer specializing in architecture. Spiluttini’s photo archive is one of the most important collections of photographs of architecture in Austria from 1980 to 2005. Biography Born in Schwarzach im Pongau, Spiluttini was trained as a medical assistant in Innsbruck where she also gained a background in medical imaging. Schwarzach im Pongau is a market town in the St. Johann im Pongau District in the Austrian state of Salzburg (state), Salzburg. Geography It is located in the valley of the Salzach river, between the Hohe Tauern mountain range (Goldberg and Ankogel Group, Ankogel groups) in the south and the Salzburg Slate Alps in the north. The municipal area is quite small, enclosed by the neighbouring municipalities of Sankt Veit im Pongau, Sankt Veit and Goldegg. Early architectural photographers include Roger Fenton, Francis Frith (Middle East and Britain), Samuel Bourne, Inclined Studio (India) and Albert Levy (United States and Europe). They paved the way for the modern speciality of architectural photography. Later architectural photography had practitioners such as Ezra Stoller and Julius Shulman. Stoller worked mainly on the east coast of America, having graduated with a degree in architecture in the 1930s. Goldegg, also called Goldegg im Pongau, is a municipality in St. Johann im Pongau District, in the state of Salzburg in Austria. Geography It is situated on a sunny plateau north of the Salzach River, the so-called « Sunny Terrace » at a distance of south of the City of Salzburg. In fact, the village owes its name (“Goldegg at the lake”) to a small lake at which it is located. There are approximately 2200 inhabitants living in the local area, which covers 33,1 square kilometres. The municipal area includes the cadastral communities of Buchberg, Goldegg, and Weng.
