Margaret Wilson (judge)
Margaret Wilson (born 24 February 1953) is a former judge of the Supreme Court of Queensland in the Trial Division. She was appointed a Queen's Counsel in 1992 and served on the court from 1998 until 2014. She is also a graduate of the University of Queensland school of law. In 2014 she was appointed a judge of the Solomon Islands Court of Appeal. Supreme Court Of Queensland
The Supreme Court of Queensland is the highest court in the Australian State of Queensland. It was formerly the Brisbane Supreme Court, in the colony of Queensland. The original jurisdiction of the Supreme Court allows its trial division to hear civil law (common law), civil matters involving claims of more than 750,000; criminal law, criminal matters involving serious offences (including murder and manslaughter); and matters arising under the ''Corporations Act 2001'' (Cth) and cross-vesting legislation. A jury decides whether the defendant is guilt (law), guilty or not guilty. The division also hears all civil matters involving amounts of more than 750,000. A jury may decide these disputes. Queen's Counsel
In the United Kingdom and in some Commonwealth of Nations, Commonwealth countries, a King's Counsel (Post-nominal letters, post-nominal initials KC) during the reign of a king, or Queen's Counsel (post-nominal initials QC) during the reign of a queen regnant, queen, is a lawyer (usually a barrister or advocate) who is typically a senior trial lawyer. Technically appointed by the monarch of the country to be one of 'His [Her] Majesty's Counsel learned in the law', the position originated in England and Wales. Some Commonwealth countries have either abolished the position, or renamed it so as to remove monarchical connotations, for example, 'Senior counsel' or 'Senior Advocate'.
