Margaret Neilson Armstrong
Margaret Neilson Armstrong (1867–1944) was a 19th and early 20th-century American book cover designer, illustrator, and author. She is best known for her book covers influenced by Art Nouveau. She also wrote and illustrated the first comprehensive guide to wildflowers of the American west, ''Field Book of Western Wild Flowers'' (1915). In later life, she wrote two popular biographies and three mystery novels. Life Margaret Neilson Armstrong was born on September 24, 1867, in New York City, the daughter of American diplomat and stained glass artist Maitland Armstrong and his wife Helen, who was a descendant of Peter Stuyvesant and a niece of Hamilton Fish. Her six siblings included Helen Maitland Armstrong (1869–1948), who followed in her father's footsteps to become a stained glass artist, and Hamilton Fish Armstrong, long-time editor of ''Foreign Affairs'' magazine. Ottawa South (french: Ottawa-Sud) is a provincial electoral district (''riding'') in the Canadian province of Ontario, in the city of Ottawa. History The district was created in 1925 from part of Ottawa West. Prior to the 1999 election, the provincial district did not have the same borders as the federal district. Prior to the 1967 redistribution, the riding shared no common area with the present riding. Present day Ottawa South could be found in the riding of Russell prior to 1967. ''Annie Oakley'' is a 1935 American Western film directed by George Stevens and starring Barbara Stanwyck, Preston Foster, Melvyn Douglasand Moroni Olsen. The film is based on the life of Annie Oakley. Plot In late 1800s, Annie Oakley, a young woman from the Ohio backwoods, delivers six dozen quail that she has shot to the owner of the general store. He sends them to the MacIvor Hotel in Cincinnati, where the mayor is holding a large banquet in honor of Toby Walker, the "greatest shot in the whole world." Toby is particular about what he eats, and hotel owner James MacIvor bought Annie's quail because she shoots the quail cleanly through the head, leaving no buckshot elsewhere. At the banquet, Jeff Hogarth signs Toby to a contract, making him part of the ''Buffalo Bill's Wild West'' show. James challenges Toby to a shooting contest to take place the next morning. Margaret Armstrong (geostatistician)
Margaret Armstrong is an Australian geostatistician, mathematical geoscientist, and textbook author. She works as an associate professor in the School of Applied Mathematics at the Fundação Getúlio Vargas in Brazil, and as a research associate in the Centre for Industrial Economics of Mines ParisTech in France. Education Armstrong graduated from the University of Queensland in 1972, with a bachelor's degree in mathematics and a diploma of education. After working as a mathematics teacher she returned to graduate study, first with a master's degree in mathematics from Queensland in 1977, and then with Georges Matheron at the École des Mines de Paris. She completed her doctorate there in 1980.
