Marek Hilšer
Marek Hilšer (born 23 March 1976) is a Czech politician and university lecturer who has served as the senator for Prague 2 since 2018. He also stood in the 2018 and 2023 Czech presidential elections. Biography Hilšer was born in Chomutov in 1976. His family emigrated from Czechoslovakia in 1989 but returned in 1990. He studied Public Relations at Charles University and went to the United States in 1999, where he had jobs including working as a plumber and digger. He returned to the Czech Republic in 2004 and studied Medicine at Charles University. In 2007, he became a scientist at the First Faculty of Medicine at Charles University. In 2008, Hilšer led protests against plans by Minister of Health Tomáš Julínek to turn teaching hospitals into joint-stock companies. Prime Minister Mirek Topolánek later announced the plans would not be implemented. Chomutov
Chomutov (; german: Komotau) is a city in the Ústí nad Labem Region of the Czech Republic. It has about 46,000 inhabitants. There are almost 80,000 inhabitants in the city's wider metropolitan area. The city centre is well preserved and is protected by law as an urban monument zone. Administrative parts Chomutov is made up of one administrative part and is the only such Czech city. Petr Pavel
Petr Pavel (born 1 November 1961) is a retired Czech army general who served as the Chair of the NATO Military Committee from 2015 to 2018, and as Chief of the General Staff of the Czech Army from 2012 to 2015. He is a candidate in the 2023 Czech presidential election, to be held in January 2023. Education Pavel graduated from the military gymnasium in Opava. He continued his military study at the Military University of the Army in Vyškov, graduating in 1983. He joined the Czechoslovak Army as a Paratrooper, serving as a platoon leader. 2018 Czech Senate Election
Senate elections were held in the Czech Republic on 5 and 6 October 2018 alongside municipal elections, with a second round held on 12 and 13 October 2018. The Conservative Civic Democratic Party (ODS) won the election with 10 seats. Governing parties ANO 2011 and the Czech Social Democratic Party were heavily defeated, winning only 1 seat each. The Communist Party lost its last seat in the Senate when Václav Homolka failed to be re-elected, meaning the party would be without representation in the Senate for the first time in the history of Czech Republic. Jiří Drahoš
Jiří Drahoš (born 20 February 1949; ) is a Czech physical chemist and politician who has been the Senator of Prague 4 since October 2018. Previously, Drahoš served as President of the Czech Academy of Sciences from 2009 to 2017, and was a candidate in the 2018 Czech presidential election. Born in Český Těšín and raised in nearby Jablunkov, Drahoš studied physical chemistry at the University of Chemistry and Technology in Prague, and joined the Institute of Chemical Process Fundamentals of the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences in 1973, which he later led from 1995 to 2003.
