Mardi Gras Casino and Resort is a casino and Greyhound racing in the United States, greyhound racing venue located in the city of Nitro, West Virginia. It is located just off the Cross Lanes exit of I-64, 14 miles west of Charleston, West Virginia and 36 miles east of Huntington, West Virginia. Although it is located within the city of Nitro, it is served by the neighboring Cross Lanes post office. It features Casino game#Table games, table games, slot machines, live greyhound racing, and off-track betting for both greyhound and horse racing. It also features several restaurants, food operations and a 150-room luxury hotel. The facility has a Mardi Gras theme. Nitro is a city in Kanawha and Putnam counties in the State of West Virginia, named after a World War I era nitrocellulose plant built by the government. The population was 6,518 according to the 2021 Population estimates. History Nitro was incorporated in 1932 by Circuit Court. The name Nitro derives from nitrocellulose, the main ingredient in smokeless gunpowder. The Nitro area was to be the American ammunition production facility during World WarI. Daniel C. This is a list of casinos in West Virginia. West Virginia became the fifth US state to legalize online gambling when HB 2934 passed the State House in February 2019. The first legal online casinos launched in the state in July 2020.
