Marcus Boyall
Marcus Boyall (8 October 1917 – 30 September 1985) was an Australian rules footballer best known for his playing career with Victorian Football League (VFL) club Collingwood and South Australian National Football League (SANFL) club Glenelg in the 1930s and 1940s. VFL career Boyall debuted for Collingwood as a 16-year-old in the 1935 VFL season. He was not an automatic selection immediately – indeed in 1936 Boyall won the Gardiner Medal for best and fairest in the VFL reserves competition. By the end of 1936 he had played only four Senior games. In 1937 Boyall continued to improve in the key position of Centre half-back and his future with Collingwood seemed bright. In 1938 he came equal third in the Brownlow Medal, the League's award for best and fairest. The Charles Brownlow Trophy, better known as the Brownlow Medal (and informally as "Charlie"), is awarded to the " best and fairest" player in the Australian Football League (AFL) during the home-and-away season, as determined by votes cast by the three officiating field umpires after each game. Camberwell Football Club
Camberwell Football Club was an Australian rules football club which formed around the mid-1880s, with a published match in 1886 and competed in the Victorian Football Association (VFA) between 1926 and 1990. Nicknamed the Cobras, Camberwell wore blue, white and red club colours. They were based in the Melbourne suburb of Camberwell. History Camberwell FC competed in the Victorian Junior Football Association in 1888, finishing sixth on the ladder, 8th in 1890 and 8th in 1891. At the 1895 VJFA – AGM, the competition was reduced from 20 teams to 12 teams and Camberwell was one of the clubs that was not admitted and it appears that Camberwell FC went into recess for a number of years, before joining the Eastern Suburbs Football Association in 1899. Victorian Football League
The Victorian Football League (VFL) is an Australian rules football league in Australia serving as one of the second-tier regional semi-professional competitions which sit underneath the fully professional Australian Football League (AFL). It includes teams from clubs based in the eastern states of Australia: Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland, and includes reserves teams for the east coast AFL clubs. The league evolved from the former Victorian Football Association (VFA), and it has been known by its current name since 1996. For historical purposes, the present-day VFL is referred to as the VFA/VFL, to distinguish it from the present-day Australian Football League, which in turn was known until 1990 as the Victorian Football League and is thus referred to as the VFL/AFL.
