Marcus Beresford, 1st Earl Of Tyrone
Marcus Beresford, 1st Earl of Tyrone (16 July 1694 – 4 April 1763), known as Sir Marcus Beresford, 4th Baronet, until 1720 and subsequently as The Viscount Tyrone until 1746, was an Irish peer, freemason and politician. Background He was the only son of Sir Tristram Beresford, 3rd Baronet, and his wife Nichola Sophia Hamilton, youngest daughter of Hugh Hamilton, 1st Viscount of Glenawly and his second wife Susanna Balfour. In 1701 his father died and Beresford, aged only five, succeeded to the baronetcy. His guardian was The 3rd Viscount Dungannon (1669-1706). After Lord Dungannon's death in 1706, his widow (Beresford's maternal aunt), Arabella, Viscountess Dungannon, served as Beresford's guardian. Theophilus Jones (1729–1811)
Theophilus Jones (1729? – 8 December 1811) was an Irish MP and administrator. He was born the eldest son of Walter Jones of Headfort and Olivia, the daughter and coheiress of the Hon. Chidley Coote of Coote Hall, County Roscommon. He served three periods as MP for County Leitrim in the Parliament of Ireland, sitting from 1761 to 1768, 1776 to 1783 and 1790 to 1800. He also sat for Coleraine (1769 to 1776) and Monaghan Borough (1783 to 1790). He was appointed secretary to Augustus Hervey, 3rd Earl of Bristol when the latter was Chief Secretary of Ireland in 1766, holding the post until 1799. He was appointed a Privy Counsellor in 1767 and Collector of Excise at the Port of Dublin from 1767 to 1799. Marquess Of Waterford
Marquess of Waterford is a title in the Peerage of Ireland and the premier marquessate in that peerage. It was created in 1789 for George Beresford, 2nd Earl of Tyrone. It is presently held by Henry Beresford, 9th Marquess of Waterford. The Beresford family descends from Tristram Beresford, who originated from Kent but settled in Ireland in the 17th century. His eldest son Tristram Beresford sat as a member of the Irish House of Commons. On 5 May 1665 he was created a baronet, of Coleraine in County Londonderry, in the Baronetage of Ireland. His great-grandson (the title having descended from father to son), the fourth Baronet, married Lady Catherine, oldest daughter of James de la Poer, 3rd Earl of Tyrone (see Earl of Tyrone). In 1720, he was created both Baron Beresford, of Beresford, in the County of Cavan, and Viscount Tyrone in the Peerage of Ireland. William Stewart, 1st Earl Of Blessington
William Stewart, 1st Earl of Blessington (7 April 170914 August 1769) was an Anglo-Irish peer and member of the House of Lords, styled The Honourable William Stewart until 1728 and known as The Viscount Mountjoy from 1728 to 1745. Life Stewart was the son of William Stewart, 2nd Viscount Mountjoy and Anne Boyle. He married Eleanor Fitzgerald, daughter of Robert Fitzgerald, on 10 January 1733. They had two children, William Stewart and Lionel Robert, both of whom died before their father. He succeeded his father as Viscount Mountjoy on 10 January 1727. He was Grand Master of the Freemasons (in Ireland) between 1738 and 1740. He was created Earl of Blessington on 7 December 1745, his mother having been sister and sole heiress of Charles, 2nd and last Viscount Blesington. He was made Governor of County Tyrone and in 1748, was sworn of the Privy Council of Ireland. James King, 4th Baron Kingston
James King, 4th Baron Kingston (1693 – 26 December 1761) was a British member of the peerage. King was a prominent freemason, being the Grand Master of the Premier Grand Lodge of England for 1728–1730 and also Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Ireland for 1731–1732 and 1735–1736. He was also a member of the Privy Council of Ireland. Despite being born in France to Jacobite parents, he was naturalised at the age of 13 years old on 8 January 1707 as a British subject and was a Protestant. Francis Burton (1 December 1696 – 20 March 1744), from Buncraggy, County Clare, Ireland, was an Anglo-Irish politician and landowner. He was a Member of Parliament for Coleraine from 1721 until 1727 and sat subsequently in the Irish House of Commons for Clare from 1727 until his death in 1744. Background Burton was born in Buncraggy, the son of Francis Burton (1640–1714). The senior Francis Burton in 1698 was granted some territories in Dromelihy, County Clare (previously associated with the MacGorman family and the O'Brien Viscount Clare) in the aftermath of the Williamite War in Ireland and the overthrow of James II. Frederick Hamilton (Londonderry Politician)
Lt.-Gen. Frederick Hamilton PC JP (died 26 March 1732) was a Scottish born Irish general and politician who served in the Parliament of Ireland. Early life Hamilton was the son of Mary ( Howard) Hamilton and Archibald Hamilton, the son of Robert Hamilton, 7th of Fairholm and of Milburne (brother to Matthew Hamilton of Milnburn), and Isobel Hamilton (a daughter of John Hamilton, 2nd of Stonehouse). His father was hanged in 1651 at Stirling, Scotland, for giving information to the English which led to the capture of Earl of Eglinton. His mother was subsequently granted reparation and the family moved to Ireland. Career From 1677, he was captain of an independent company in Charles II's Irish army, active against tories in the district of Lough Erne. He eventually gained the rank of Lieutenant-General. Baron La Poer
Baron La Poer, de la Poer, or Le Pour, is a title in the Peerage of Ireland held by the Marquess of Waterford. Its creation is the sole instance in the law of the Kingdom of Ireland recognising a peerage by writ. Origin of the title James Power, 3rd Earl of Tyrone, who was also the 8th Baron Power, held both his titles by letters patent (dated 1535 and 1637 respectively), which specified that the titles would be inherited by heirs male of the grantee. When he died in 1704 however, his only child was a daughter, Lady Catharine Power. The Earldom became extinct, and in an ordinary course of events, the Barony of Power would have been inherited by his distant cousin, Colonel John Power (or Poore) of the French ''Régiment de Dublin''.
