	Silvia Marcovici Silvia Marcovici (born 30 January 1952) is a Romanian classical violinist. Born in Bacău, Romania, to a Jewish family, she studied at the Conservatory in Bucharest. Her international debut was at the age of sixteen when she performed in The Hague under Bruno Maderna. In 1969, she won the second grand prize in the Marguerite Long-Jacques Thibaud Competition in Paris (nobody won the first one) as well as the special prize of Rainier III, Prince of Monaco. In 1970, she was the winner of the first prize in the George Enescu Competition in Bucharest. In 1972, she was invited by Leopold Stokowski to play the Glazunov Violin Concerto with the London Symphony Orchestra at the Royal Festival Hall, recorded by Decca. 	Șmil Marcovici Șmil Marcovici (1893 – November 10, 1940) was a Romanian communist activist. He was born in Iași. A member of the local Jewish community, he fought in the Romanian Army in World War I until 1917, when he deserted. He fled to Odessa, where, together with Christian Rakovsky and Mihail Gheorghiu Bujor, he took part in a revolutionary battalion for Romanian troops. Later, as a courier employed by Soviet Russia, he entered Romania a number of times, bringing in printing presses and important sums of money in order to finance the communist factions within the Socialist Party of Romania, as well as Bolshevik-inspired terrorist groups. Arrested as a spy in May 1920, he was sentenced to twenty years' hard labor. He escaped from Jilava prison and took refuge in Russia. 	Markovics Karl Markovics is an Austrian actor and film director. He was born in Vienna, Austria. Biography Markovics' mother worked as a clerk and his father was a bus driver. Markovics did not want to go into a professional career but wanted to become a stage actor, which his parents supported. However, he failed to pass the entry exam for the Max-Reinhardt-Seminar. He did not let this deter him from his dream and began performing at the Serapions Theater in Vienna. In 1987, he started working with the Wiener Ensemble. In 1991, he got his first part in the movie, "Hund und Katz" and in 1993, he played the part of the innkeeper in Paul Harather's tragic-comedy road movie "Indien". Markovics became known to a wider audience when he played Ernst Stockinger, appearing in the Austrian crime show " Inspector Rex", and then later in the spin-off series "Stockinger".
