Marco Büchel
Marco Büchel (born 4 November 1971 in Walenstadt, Switzerland) is a retired alpine ski racer from Liechtenstein. He participated in a record-tying six Winter Olympics, starting in 1992 and ending in 2010. On 18 January 2008, Büchel won a World Cup Super-G race at Kitzbühel, and set a then record as the oldest winner of a World Cup race at the age of . This has since been surpassed by Didier Cuche, who won a downhill race at the same location on 22 January 2011 to set a new record as the oldest winner of a World Cup race; the following 13 months Cuche extended this record 6 times, finally with his last career victory in the Super-G of Crans Montana on 24 February 2012 to . Alpine Skiing
Alpine skiing, or downhill skiing, is the pastime of sliding down snow-covered slopes on skis with fixed-heel bindings, unlike other types of skiing ( cross-country, Telemark, or ski jumping), which use skis with free-heel bindings. Whether for recreation or for sport, it is typically practiced at ski resorts, which provide such services as ski lifts, artificial snow making, snow grooming, restaurants, and ski patrol. Jessica Walter (skier)
Jessica Walter (born 14 October 1984) is a former alpine skier who competed in the 2006 Winter Olympics representing Liechtenstein. Career Walter was born in Vaduz and represented the Skiclub Schaan. Walter won silver at the World Junior Alpine Skiing Championships 2004 in Maribor, representing her country in the Giant Slalom. Between 2002 and 2006, she competed in 17 FIS Alpine Ski World Cup events, qualifying for three second run races for classification. Her best World Cup result came in February 2004 at Zwiesel in the Slalom where she finished in 17th position. She competed the 2006 Winter Olympics in Torino finishing 32nd in the Slalom. She was also the chosen flagbearer of Liechtenstein for the opening ceremony. Personal life Walter resides in Planken, Liechtenstein. Val Gardena (; german: Gröden ; lld, Gherdëina ) is a valley in Northern Italy, in the Dolomites of South Tyrol. It is best known as a tourist skiing, rock climbing, and woodcarving area. Geography The valley's main river is the Derjon, a tributary of the Eisack river. The mountains that surround the valley are formed by dolomite rocks, which confer on them a characteristic appearance. Most of the steep slopes are covered by pine woods.
