Roden, Drenthe
Roden () is a town in the Dutch province of Drenthe. It is located in the municipality of Noordenveld, about 16 km (10 miles) southwest of Groningen. History The village was first mentioned in 1139 as Rothen, and means "settlement near a clearing in the forest". Roden is an ''esdorp'' which developed in the Early Middle Ages. It has a large ''brink'' (village square) near the church and a double triangular ''brink'' around what is nowadays called Julianaplein. The Dutch Reformed church has three aisles and dates from the 13th century. The tower has a constricted needle spire which dates from the 15th or 16th century. The church was extended in the 15th century. The church was restored several times during the Dutch Revolt due to war damage. Profronde van Fryslan is a single-day road bicycle race held annually in June in Friesland, Netherlands. Since 2007, the race is organized as a 1.1 event on the UCI Europe Tour. Between 2004 and 2006 it was held as Noord-Nederland Tour, and in 2010 was known as the Batavus Pro Race. Olympia's Tour
The Olympia's Tour is a cycling stage race held in the Netherlands. History A.S.C. Olympia was founded in Amsterdam on 27 November 1898. It ran one-day races but wanted a race through all the Netherlands. The first Olympia's Tour was in 1909, with three stages and one rest day. The second in 1910 went to Maastricht and Groningen. It was 17 years before the third race, partly because races on public roads were forbidden in the Netherlands during the First World War. An international field with 16 Germans, the champions of Switzerland and Luxembourg and around 40 Dutch riders left the Rembrandtplein on 17 August 1927. The Dutch were mainly amateurs, the Germans sponsored riders who rode for bicycle manufacturers such as Opel and Diamant which provided material and a support team. Ronde van Overijssel ( en, Tour of Overijssel) is an elite men's road bicycle racing event held annually in Overijssel, Netherlands and sanctioned by the Royal Dutch Cycling Union. The event is UCI 1.2 rated, and is part of the UCI Europe Tour. In 2012, the race was expanded to two days for its 60th anniversary, but reverted to a single-day race in 2013.
