Marching Orders (TV Series)
''Marching Orders'' is an American Television documentary, documentary television show on Netflix about The Marching Wildcats, the competition marching band of Bethune–Cookman University (BCU) in Daytona Beach, Florida. The series follows members over three weeks competing to make, and stay on, and compete with the Wildcats which are among the nation's top ranked programs. The show's first season of twelve episodes was released on August 3, 2018. The first nine of the short-form episodes feature various divisions of the Wildcats including the musicians, the Five Horsemen Drum major (marching band), drum majors, and the two auxiliary corps—the Sophisticat Flag Corps and the 14 Karat Gold dance squad—as they rehearse precision high-step marching, formations, and dance routines for the season's first competition. Drum Major (marching Band)
A drum major or field commander is the leader of a marching band, drum and bugle corps, or pipe band, usually positioned at the head of the band or corps. The drum major is often dressed in more ornate clothing than the rest of the band or corps and is responsible for providing commands to the ensemble, leading them while marching, and directing them what to play, when to play, the dynamic or volume of playing, and what time to keep. The commands may be given verbally, through hand gestures, using a whistle or a baton, or with a mace. Although the drum major is the one conducting for the entire band to see and watch to keep time, the drum major is actually looking at the center snare's feet to keep time. Honda Battle Of The Bands
The Honda Battle of the Bands (sometimes abbreviated The Honda or HBOB) is an annual marching band exhibition in the United States which features performances by bands from historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs). Sponsored by the American Honda Motor Company, the Invitational Showcase took place in the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia in late January from 2003 to 2020. In 2022, it was announced HBOB selected Alabama State University in Montgomery, Alabama to be the first ever HBCU campus to host the in-person event in February 2023.
