Marcelo Pontiroli
Marcelo Luis Pontiroli (born 22 January 1972 in San Andrés de Giles Partido, San Andrés de Giles, Buenos Aires Province, Buenos Aires) is a former Argentina, Argentine Association football, footballer who played as a Goalkeeper (association football), goalkeeper. Football career Pontiroli began his career in 1993 at Deportivo Español, moving to Argentinos Juniors in 1997, and Club Atlético Independiente two years later. Between 2000 and 2007, he represented Belgrano de Córdoba, Club Atlético Lanús and Quilmes Atlético Club, with his first and only abroad experience in between, with only six Primeira Liga games for Varzim S.C. in a 2002–03 Primeira Liga, relegation-ending season. In 2007, after 310 Argentine Primera División, Primera División games, 35-year-old Pontiroli returned to Quilmes and helped ''El Cervecero'' promote to the top flight in 2009–10. San Andres de Giles Partido is a partido of Buenos Aires Province in Argentina. The capital of the partido is San Andrés de Giles, west of Buenos Aires and west of the provincial capital La Plata. The provincial subdivision has a population of 20,829 inhabitants (2001) in an area of . History The ''Quilmes'' were a native tribe who lived in the surroundings of Tucumán. In the 17th century, after repeated attempts by the Spanish invaders to control their lands, the Quilmes were defeated and were forced to settle in a restricted colony ('' reducción'') near Buenos Aires, where the authorities could control them. The settlement was thus established in 1666 as ''Exaltación de la Santa Cruz de los Kilme''. The journey from Tucumán was made on foot, causing hundreds of Quilmes to die in the process.
