Marcelle Pradot
Marcelle Pradot (born Marcelle Marie Claire Pénicaud, or Pénicaut; 27 July 1901 – 24 June 1982) was a French actress who worked principally in silent films. She was born at Montmorency, Val-d'Oise, near Paris. At the age of 18 while she was taking classes in dancing and singing in Paris, she was asked by Marcel L'Herbier to appear in his film ''Le Bercail'' (1919). She went on to appear in a further eight of L'Herbier's silent films, and then in his first sound film ''L'Enfant de l'amour'' (1930) with which she ended her acting career. She was noted as an aristocratic beauty, and she was described by the critic Louis Delluc as "the Infanta of French cinema". Marcelle Pradot and Marcel L'Herbier were married in late 1923, and their daughter Marie-Ange was born in the following year. Montmorency () is a commune in the northern suburbs of Paris, France. It is located from the center of Paris. Montmorency was the fief of the Montmorency family, one of the oldest and most distinguished families of the French nobility. It is now a wealthy suburb of Paris. Name The name Montmorency was recorded for the first time in Medieval Latin as ''Mons Maurentiacus'' (attested in 993). ''Mons Maurentiacus'', literally "Mount Maurentiacus", was the name given to the promontory over which a castle was built in the Early Middle Ages. ''Maurentiacus'', the name of the area surrounding the promontory, meant "estate of Maurentius", probably a Gallo-Roman landowner. ''L'Argent'' ("money") is a French silent film directed in 1928 by Marcel L'Herbier. The film was adapted from the 1891 novel '' L'Argent'' by Émile Zola, and it portrays the world of banking and the stock market in Paris in the 1920s. Background Marcel L'Herbier had become one of the most prominent French film-makers during the 1920s, but even after he had sought greater creative independence by establishing his own production company, Cinégraphic, he experienced continual frustration over the financial arrangements under which he had to work. He said that after ten years of making films, he became "obsessed by a single idea: to film at any cost, even (what a paradox) at great cost, a fierce denunciation of money". Jaque Catelain
Jaque Catelain (9 February 1897 – 5 March 1965) was a French actor who came to prominence in silent films of the 1920s, and who continued acting in films and on stage until the 1950s. He also wrote and directed two silent films himself, and he was a capable artist and musician. He had a close association with the director Marcel L'Herbier. (He was born as Jacques Guérin-Castelain; other variations of his name used at different times were Jaque-Catelain, Jacques Catelain, Jacques Catelin, and Jacque Cathelain.) Early life Jaque Catelain was born in Saint-Germain-en-Laye in the Pavillon Henri IV (he was said to have been born in the same room as Louis XIV).
