Marcel Léger
Marcel Léger (June 8, 1930 – February 5, 1993) was a Canadian politician, and a supporter of Quebec sovereignty. He also founded the Canadian polling firm that became Léger Marketing. Background Léger was born in Montreal. He is the father of pollster Jean-Marc Léger and Parti Québécois MNA Nicole Léger. Provincial Politics Léger successfully ran as the Parti Québécois candidate in the provincial district of LaFontaine in 1970. He was re-elected in 1973, 1976 and 1981. He became Minister of the Environment in 1976, but was dropped from the Cabinet in 1982. Federal Politics Léger was leader of the '' Parti nationaliste du Québec'' from September 14, 1983 to May 17, 1984. In that capacity, he tried to establish a federal wing for the Parti Québécois and represent Quebec's interests in Ottawa. Parti Nationaliste Du Québec
The Parti nationaliste du Québec was a fringe Quebec-based federal political party in Canada, that advocated sovereignty of Quebec and was founded by Parti Québécois (PQ) supporters. Its primary goal was to represent Quebec's interests in Ottawa and serve as a federal wing for the PQ. Origins For decades, the Social Credit Party's Quebec wing, the Ralliement créditiste, attracted many Quebec nationalists as a party that could represent Quebec's interests in the House of Commons of Canada. When Créditistes were wiped off the electoral map in 1980 federal election, the political situation seemed favourable for the growth of the Parti nationaliste. Jean-Claude Gobé
Jean-Claude Gobé (born April 11, 1949) is a Quebec politician. He served as the member for LaFontaine in the Quebec National Assembly as a member of the Quebec Liberal Party from 1985 until 2003. He left the Liberals to sit as an Independent shortly before his term in the National Assembly ended. Until resigning in 2018, he was the leader of the Official Opposition in the City of Laval as head of Action Laval. Biography Gobé was born in Charleville, France and studied at the College Sainte-Jeanne D'Arc in Orléans and then at the Academy of Montpelier. He served in the 7th Infantry Regiment of the Navy in Fréjus from 1967 to 1971, before emigrating to Canada in 1972. After serving as a sales manager and then head of Renault Canada, he was director of Ademco and then of Comterm. He was managing director of Norma Rental from 1980 to 1985. In Quebec politics, ''le beau risque'' (, ''the noble risk'' or ''the good risk'') is a political catch phrase describing the "risk" the Parti Québécois (PQ or "''péquistes''") took in asking Quebecers to support federal Progressive Conservatives (PCs or "Tories") under Brian Mulroney and accept an amended version of the Constitution Act, 1982, which the ''péquiste'' Quebec government under René Lévesque has previously refused to sign. Mulroney promised Quebec the opportunity to fully enter into the constitution "with honour and enthusiasm" and have its distinctiveness recognized in the document. It was coined by Parti Québécois Premier of Quebec René Lévesque.
