Marcel Froissart
Marcel Froissart (20 December 1934, 6th arrondissement of Paris – 21 October 2015, 14th arrondissement of Paris) was a French theoretical physicist, specializing in particle physics. He is known for the Froissart bound and the Froissart–Stora equation. Biography After secondary study at the Lycée Louis-le-Grand, Marcel Froissart matriculated in 1953 at the École polytechnique, where he graduated in 1955. He then entered in October 1956 Mines ParisTech, now known as École nationale supérieure des mines de Paris (Mines Paris - PSL). After completing only one semester of a four-semester technical curriculum, he was sent in civil cooperation with the French Navy to Algeria (during the Algerian War, which lasted from 1954 to 1962). He was reassigned in 1957 to the ''Commissariat à l'énergie atomique'' (CEA), for which he worked in Geneva from 1957 to 1958 at CERN. Bernard Morin
Bernard Morin (; 3 March 1931 in Shanghai, China – 12 March 2018) was a French mathematician, specifically a topologist. Early life and education Morin lost his sight at the age of six due to glaucoma, but his blindness did not prevent him from having a successful career in mathematics. He received his Ph.D. in 1972 from the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique. Career Morin was a member of the group that first exhibited an eversion of the sphere, i.e., a homotopy which starts with a sphere and ends with the same sphere but turned inside-out. He also discovered the Morin surface, which is a half-way model for the sphere eversion, and used it to prove a lower bound on the number of steps needed to turn a sphere inside out. Astroparticle And Cosmology Laboratory
The Astroparticle and Cosmology (APC) laboratory in Paris gathers researchers (experimentalists, theorists and observers) working in different areas including high-energy astrophysics, cosmology, gravitation, and neutrino physics. The institute was founded in January 2005 and soon moved to new campus of Paris Diderot University in the Paris Rive Gauche area. Astroparticle
Cosmic rays are high-energy particles or clusters of particles (primarily represented by protons or atomic nuclei) that move through space at nearly the speed of light. They originate from the Sun, from outside of the Solar System in our own galaxy, and from distant galaxies. Upon impact with Earth's atmosphere, cosmic rays produce showers of secondary particles, some of which reach the surface, although the bulk is deflected off into space by the magnetosphere or the heliosphere. Large Hadron Collider
The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is the world's largest and highest-energy particle collider. It was built by the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) between 1998 and 2008 in collaboration with over 10,000 scientists and hundreds of universities and laboratories, as well as more than 100 countries. It lies in a tunnel in circumference and as deep as beneath the France–Switzerland border near Geneva. Louis Leprince-Ringuet (27 March 1901, in Alès – 23 December 2000, in Paris) was a French physicist, telecommunications engineer, essayist and historian of science. Francis Perrin (17 August 1901 – 4 July 1992) was a French physicist, the son of Nobel prize-winning physicist Jean Perrin. Physicist Francis Perrin was born in Paris and attended École Normale Supérieure in Paris.
