Marc Vouillot
Marc Vouillot (born July 5, 1952) is a French powerlifter and strength coach with an international reputation. He has been called the "Father of French Powerlifting".Legeard, Emmanuel, ''Force'', Paris, 2005, p. 208 Early life Of French descent, Vouillot was born in Abidjan in Ivory Coast, on July 5, 1952. He moved to Cotonou in Dahomey seven years later because his father was engaged in public works for a French firm, then instrumental in conducting major African construction projects. There, Vouillot first started as a Judoka at the age of 7. In 1963, Vouillot's family relocated to Argenteuil where he was introduced to Olympic Weightlifting by World champion Henri Ferrari. Powerlifting career Vouillot has competed in powerlifting for over 30 years and was French national powerlifting champion in 1981, 1982 and 1996. Powerlifting
Powerlifting is a strength sport that consists of three attempts at maximal weight on three lifts: squat, bench press, and deadlift. As in the sport of Olympic weightlifting, it involves the athlete attempting a maximal weight single-lift effort of a barbell loaded with weight plates. Powerlifting evolved from a sport known as "odd lifts", which followed the same three-attempt format but used a wider variety of events, akin to strongman competition. Eventually odd lifts became standardized to the current three. In competition, lifts may be performed equipped or un-equipped (typically referred to as 'classic' or 'raw' lifting in the IPF specifically). Henri Ferrari (23 September 1912 – 15 February 1975) was a French male former weightlifter, who competed in the light heavyweight class and represented France at international competitions. He won the bronze medal at the 1946 World Weightlifting Championships in the 82.5 kg category. Jean-Pierre Brulois (born 18 April 1957) is a former world champion powerlifter, strongman and Olympic Weightlifter from France Strength sports Jean-Pierre is best known for winning the 1990 IPF World Powerlifting Champion title in The Hague, Netherlands. A former Junior record holder in Olympic weightlifting, he also competed in four World Strongest Man contests: 1985, 1986, 1988, and 1992, finishing 8th in 1985, 5th in 1986, and 7th in 1988. Olympic weightlifting, or Olympic-style weightlifting (officially named Weightlifting), is a sport in which athletes compete in lifting a barbell loaded with weight plates from the ground to overhead, with each athlete trying to successfully lift the heaviest weights. Athletes compete in two specific ways of lifting the barbell overhead: these are the snatch and the clean and jerk. The ''snatch'' is a wide-grip lift, in which the weighted barbell is lifted overhead in one motion.
