Marc Gisin
Marc Gisin (born 25 June 1988) is a Swiss former alpine skier. He competed in the 2018 Winter Olympics. Career Gisin represented Switzerland in the FIS ski championships. Gisin's best results in the FIS World Cup came at Kitzbuhel in 2016 and 2018 where he finished in 5th position on both occasions. In the FIS European Cup, he won on three occasions at Madonna di Campiglio, Les Orres and Crans Montana. Gisin competed in the 2018 Winter Olympics. He finished in 21st position in the Men's Downhill race. During his career, Gisin suffered major injuries in crashes. At Crans Montana in 2012, Gisin suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament and then in January 2015 at Kitzbuhel left him with a concussion and bleeding on the brain after an accident during the Mens Super-G race. In 2018, Gisin was involved in an accident at Val Gardena during the Mens Downhill race. He crashed following a jump, and was airlifted to hospital. Dominique Gisin
Dominique Gisin (; born 4 June 1985) is a retired World Cup alpine ski racer and Olympic gold medalist from Switzerland. She is the older sister of alpine ski racers Marc and Michelle Gisin. Career Born in Visp in the canton of Valais, Gisin made her World Cup debut in December 2005. Her first podium was in Altenmarkt-Zauchensee, Austria, where she placed second in the downhill on 13 January 2007. Two years later in January 2009, she gained her first World Cup victory, also a downhill at Altenmarkt-Zauchensee, with the same time as Anja Pärson. At the Winter Olympics in 2014, she tied for first in the downhill with Tina Maze and both were awarded gold medals. It was the first-ever tie for gold in an alpine event at the Olympics, though several times previously competitors have tied for second, so that two silver medals were awarded (and no bronze). Wengen
Wengen () is a mountain village in the Bernese Oberland of central Switzerland. Located in the canton of Bern at an elevation of above sea level, it is part of the Jungfrauregion and has approximately 1,300 year-round residents, which swells to 5,000 during summer and to 10,000 in the winter. Wengen hosts the classic Lauberhorn ski races of the FIS Alpine Ski World Cup in January. History Wengen was first mentioned in official documents in 1268, and the origin of the name is unknown. Michelle Gisin
Michelle Gisin (; born 5 December 1993) is a Swiss World Cup alpine ski racer and competes in all disciplines. A two-time Olympic gold medalist, she won the Women's combined event in 2018 Winter Olympics, and Women's combined at the 2022 Winter Olympics. Born in Samedan, Graubünden, Gisin is the younger sister of alpine ski racers Marc and Dominique Gisin. Career Gisin has enjoyed success in the Swiss Junior National Championships, finishing third in the downhill in 2011, third in the Super G in 2012 and winning the super combined in 2012. She took a silver medal in the slalom at the FIS Junior World Ski Championships in February 2013. She competed for Switzerland at the 2014 Winter Olympics in the alpine skiing events. Saslong is a World Cup downhill ski course in Italy just above Val Gardena/Gröden. Located on the Langkofel in the Dolomites, the race course made its World Cup debut in February 1969. Course sections Spinel Difficult jump short after the start, into the steepest section (56.9% gradient), then virtual change direction in mid-air to compression. Visp (french: Viège) is the capital of the district of Visp in the canton of Valais in Switzerland.
