Marc Besen
Marcus Besen (19 December 1923 – 8 November 2023) was a Romanian-born Australian businessman, philanthropist, and Holocaust survivor. He was the managing director of fashion retailer Sussan from 1951 to 1980, and he was involved in various philanthropic activities. In 2015, he was appointed a Companion of the Order of Australia. Early life and education Marcus Besen was born on 19 December 1923 in Cernăuți County, Kingdom of Romania, to a Jewish family, the son of Gusta and Simon Besen. He was a Holocaust survivor who fled from Romania and the Nazis after World War II. He survived the sinking of his small boat off Turkey, and arrived in Australia in 1947. Besen attended the University of Melbourne, where he graduated with a degree in economics. He went on to study at Harvard Business School in 1963. Cernăuți County was a county ( județ) of Romania, in Bukovina, with the capital city at Cernăuți. The area was incorporated into the Soviet Union in 1940 (after the Soviet occupation of Northern Bukovina) and again in 1944 (after the Soviet occupation of Romania), and has been part of Ukraine since 1991. The Australian Ballet is the largest classical ballet company in Australia. It was founded by J. C. Melbourne Symphony Orchestra
The Melbourne Symphony Orchestra (MSO) is an Australian orchestra based in Melbourne. The MSO is resident at Hamer Hall. The MSO has its own choir, the MSO Chorus, following integration with the Melbourne Chorale in 2008. The Australian Centre For Contemporary Art (ACCA) is a contemporary art gallery in Melbourne, Australia. TarraWarra Museum Of Art
TarraWarra Museum of Art is an art museum in Tarrawarra, Victoria, 45 kilometres northeast of Melbourne. Founded by philanthropists and art collectors Eva and Marc Besen, it is the first museum of art in Australia supported by a significant private endowment. TarraWarra Museum of Art Limited was registered in 2000.
