2018 Luxembourg General Election
General elections were held in Luxembourg on 14 October 2018. All 60 seats of the Chamber of Deputies were renewed. The incumbent Bettel–Schneider Ministry was made up of a coalition of the Democratic Party (DP), the Luxembourg Socialist Workers' Party (LSAP) and The Greens. The largest party in Parliament, the Christian Social People's Party (CSV), was in the opposition. The 2018 election allowed for the coalition to remain in place with minor changes in government composition. Date There was some debate about when the election ought to be held. The Left ( lb, Déi Lénk ; french: La Gauche; german: Die Linken) is a democratic socialist political party in Luxembourg. The Left is associated with The Left in the European Parliament – GUE/NGL group in the European Parliament but does not have any members. The party participates in the Party of the European Left. On the political spectrum it is often considered a left-wing political party. The Left was founded by the New Left and the Communist Party of Luxembourg (KPL) as an electoral party. It had members from both parties and independents. In the 1999 Luxembourg general election, the Left won 3.3% of the votes and one seat in the parliament; André Hoffmann was elected from the southern constituency. In 2000, after anticipated elections in the city of Esch sur Alzette, Hoffmann became deputy mayor and Aloyse Bisdorff (KPL) succeeded him in parliament.
