Marc-Pascal De Sales Laterrière
Marc-Pascal de Sales Laterrière (March 25, 1792 – March 29, 1872) was a Quebec doctor, seigneur and political figure. He was born in Baie-du-Febvre, Lower Canada in 1792, the son of Pierre de Sales Laterrière who became the seigneur of Les Éboulements. Laterrière studied at the Petit Séminaire of Quebec and went on to study medicine in Philadelphia. He served as surgeon with the militia during the War of 1812 and set up practice in Lower Town, Quebec City until 1816. Laterrière then returned to Les Éboulements to take on his responsibilities as seigneur. He married Eulalie-Antoinette, the daughter of merchant Claude Dénéchau. He represented Northumberland County in the Legislative Assembly of Lower Canada from 1824 to 1830 and then Saguenay County from 1830 until 1832, when he was appointed to the Legislative Council. Rebellion, uprising, or insurrection is a refusal of obedience or order. It refers to the open resistance against the orders of an established authority. A rebellion originates from a sentiment of indignation and disapproval of a situation and then manifests itself by the refusal to submit or to obey the authority responsible for this situation. Sir Charles Alphonse Pantaléon Pelletier, (January 22, 1837 – April 29, 1911) was a Canadians, Canadian lawyer, militia officer, politician, publisher, judge, and the List of lieutenant governors of Quebec#Lieutenant Governors of Quebec, 1867–present, ninth Lieutenant Governor of Quebec. Biography Born in Rivière-Ouelle, Lower Canada (now Quebec), the son of Jean-Marie Pelletier and Julie Painchaud, he studied law at the Université Laval, was called to the bar in 1860 and entered practice in Quebec City. He married Suzanne, the daughter of lawyer Charles-Eusèbe Casgrain in 1861; his wife died during childbirth the following year. In 1862, he joined the Canadian Militia as an officer with the Voltigeurs de Québec. A Captain by 1863, he became a major with the 9th Battalion Volunteer Militia Rifles and saw active service with the battalion in 1866 during the Fenian raids, Fenian Raids and retired from the militia in 1867. The Legislative Council of the Province of Canada was the upper house for the Province of Canada, which consisted of the former provinces of Lower Canada, then known as Canada East and later the province of Quebec, and Upper Canada, then known as Canada West and later the province of Ontario. It was created by The Union Act of 1840. The first session of parliament began in Kingston in Canada West in 1841. It succeeded the Legislative Council of Lower Canada and Legislative Council of Upper Canada. The 24 legislative councillors were originally appointed for life. Saguenay was a federal electoral district (Canada), electoral district in Quebec, Canada, that was represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1949 to 1968. This riding was created in 1947 from parts of Charlevoix—Saguenay Riding (division), riding.
