Marauder (Magnum Album)
''Marauder'' is a live album by the English rock band Magnum. It was released in 1980 on Jet Records. Magnum recorded ''Marauder'' over one night at London's Marquee Club on 15 December 1979. It was an attempt by Jet Records to revive the success of the debut album '' Kingdom of Madness'' following the failure of ''Magnum II''.Clarkin, Tony & Ling, David (2006). Sleeve Notes. The album was recorded on multi-track by former-Ten Years After bass player Leo Lyons, who had recorded ''Magnum II'', and mixed by Chris Tsangarides. A four-track EP preceded the album's release in March 1980, called ''Live at the Marquee'', featuring material from the same show. Magnum (band)
Magnum are an English hard rock band. They were formed in Birmingham by Tony Clarkin (guitar, songwriter) and Bob Catley (vocals) in order to appear as the resident band at the Rum Runner nightclub in the city. Magnum have undergone several changes in personnel over the years; however, the core of Catley and Clarkin remain. Magnum's most significant early success was '' Chase the Dragon'' in 1982, which reached number 17 in the UK Albums Chart. It included several songs that would become mainstays of the band's live set, notably "Soldier of the Line", "Sacred Hour" and "The Spirit". Jet Records was a British record label started by Don Arden in 1974, featuring musicians such as Lynsey de Paul, Electric Light Orchestra (ELO), Roy Wood, Gary Moore, Ozzy Osbourne, Alan Price, Adrian Gurvitz, Riot and Magnum. Leo Lyons
Leo David William Lyons (born 30 November 1943) is an English musician, who was most notably the bassist of the blues rock band Ten Years After. Biography Leo Lyons was born in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire in November 1943 and became a professional musician at the age of 16. In 1962, along with band-mate Alvin Lee, his band Ten Years After, The Jaybirds performed at The Star Club in Hamburg, Germany. Lyons was also hired to play in the club's house band, along with Tony Sheridan. Simultaneously, he performed at the Top Ten Club with featured guitarist Albert Lee. ''Magnum II'' is the eponymous second studio album by the English rock band Magnum. It was released in 1979 on Jet Records. ''Magnum II'' followed on from the success of Magnum's debut album, '' Kingdom of Madness''. The album was produced by former Ten Years After bass player Leo Lyons, who had success with producing ''Phenomenon'', ''Force It'' and ''No Heavy Petting'' for UFO. Overseen by the Kansas producer Jeff Glixman, ''Chase the Dragon'' was the first recorded appearance by the new keyboard player Mark Stanway, although he had made his live debut at Magnum's appearance at the Reading Festival in 1980. The album was recorded over 13 days at Town House Studios in London, and the following year Tony Clarkin flew to Axis Studios in Atlanta to mix it. However, there was a two-year delay before the album's release in 1982. ''Kingdom of Madness'' is the debut studio album by the English rock band Magnum. It was recorded in 1976, and was released in 1978 by Jet Records. ''Kingdom of Madness'' was awarded a 4 star review in Sounds, with writer Geoff Barton suggesting the band were capable of making a strong claim for a slice of the market occupied by the likes of Styx, Kansas and Yes. The album was described as "flute-laced progressive rock sound similar to that of Jethro Tull. The songwriting ranges from imaginative, mythical tales on "In the Beginning" and the title song, to deeply philosophical tracks like "Universe" and "All That Is Real"." Ten Years After are a British rock group, most popular in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Between 1968 and 1973, the band had eight consecutive Top 40 albums on the UK Albums Chart. Castle Communications, also known as Castle Music, was a British independent record label and home video distributor founded in 1983 by Terry Shand, Cliff Dane, and Jon Beecher.
