Marama Teururai
Prince Marama Teururai later known as Regent Marama (17 December 1851 – 7 June 1909) was a member of a Tahitian royal family (House of Teururai) which reigned on the Tahitian island of Huahine during the 19th century. He was designated as a crown prince of Huahine when his father became king of Huahine in 1852. He never became king of Huahine. Biography Prince Marama Teururai was born at Huahine in 1851. He was the second son of King Ari'imate. His mother, Princess Maerehia Teha'apapa of Raiatea, was the only living child of King Tamatoa IV of Raiatea. She became Queen regnant of Huahine under the reign name of Teha'apapa II after her husband was deposed in 1868. Regency He succeeded his younger brother as prime minister to their mother Queen Teha'apapa in 1884. He acted also as Regent from 1884 to 1895. Teuira Henry
Teuira Henry (24/27 January 1847 – 23 January 1915) was a British Tahitian scholar, ethnologist, folklorist, linguist, historian and educator. She worked to reconstruct a lost manuscript on the history of Tahiti written by her grandfather, English missionary John Muggridge Orsmond, by using his original notes. Most of her writings were published posthumously by the Bernice Pauahi Bishop Museum as the book ''Ancient Tahiti''. Early years and education Henry was born on 24 January or 27 January 1847, on Tahiti, as the fourth child and eldest daughter of Isaac S. Henry and Eliza Orsmond Henry. Her paternal grandparents were William Henry and Sarah Maebens Henry while her maternal grandparents were John Muggridge Orsmond and Isabella Nelson Orsmond. The ''Société des Océanistes'' is a French scientific society, founded in 1936, that brings together specialists and interdisciplinary scholars of the cultures and societies of Oceania. His claims were not recognized by France. On 28 May 2009, Joinville Pōmare, an adopted member of the Pōmare family, declared himself King Pōmare XI, during a ceremony attended by descendants of leading chiefs but spurned by members of his own family. Other members of the family recognised his uncle, Léopold Pōmare, as heir to the throne. He attempted to have royal trust lands returned to him and his family. The French government mortgaged the land after World War II, and in doing so violated the terms of the agreement signed with Pōmare V in 1880 which reserved control of the trust lands for the royal family of Tahiti.
