Maradi (department)
The Region of Maradi is one of seven Region of Niger. It is located in south-central Niger, east of the Region of Tahoua, west of Zinder, and north of the Nigerian city of Katsina. The administrative centre is at Maradi. The population of the Region is predominantly Hausa. History In 2021, a large gold mine collapse in the region killed 18 miners. Geography Maradi borders Agadez Region to the north, Zinder Region to the east, Nigeria to the south (specifically the states of Katsina, Zamfara and Sokoto), and Tahoua Region to the west. Niger is divided into eight regions (French: ''régions;'' singular''région)'', each of which is named after its capital. Aguie
Aguie (var. Aguié, Agyé) is a town and capital of the Aguie Department in southern Niger, east of the nation's second largest city, Maradi. Administrative structure Aguié Commune is the seat of the Department of the same name, one of five-second level administrative subdivisions of the Maradi Region. Among the Commune subdivisions within the Department are the "Rural Communes" of Saé Saboua, Arnagou and Giratawa. Nearby villages include Dan Kiri, Dan Gao, Gamji Karama, Dan Rago, Doromawa, Guidan Tonio, and Guidan Kodao. Population A primarily Hausa populated region, it is bordered to the south by Katsina State, Nigeria. The 2007 estimated population of Aguié Department was 270,000.
