Captain Marvel (Kree name Mar-Vell, Earth alias Walter Lawson) is a fictional character appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. The character was created by writer-editor Stan Lee and designed by penciller, artist Gene Colan and first appeared in ''Marvel Super-Heroes (comics), Marvel Super-Heroes'' #12 (December 1967). He is the original bearer of the name Captain Marvel (Marvel Comics), "Captain Marvel" within the Marvel brand. The character debuted during the Silver Age of comic books and made many subsequent appearances, including a self-titled series and the second volume of the ''Marvel Spotlight'' series until his death in 1982, which has since Comic book death, remained largely permanent within mainstream continuity and most other media, with Carol Danvers becoming the primarily featured Captain Marvel in the modern age. The Kree, briefly known as the Ruul, are a fictional scientifically and technologically advanced militaristic list of fictional extraterrestrials, alien race appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. They are native to the planet Hala in the Large Magellanic Cloud. Captain Marvel is the name of several fictional superheroes appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. Most of these versions exist in Marvel's main shared universe, known as the Marvel Universe. Rick Jones is a fictional character appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics.
