Maple Lawn Farm is a historic home located at Newark Valley in Tioga County, New York. The frame house was constructed in the 1880s in the Stick Style. It consists of a -story T-shaped section on the east, a 2-story rear wing, and a 1-story modern addition. Also on the property is a bank barn built in three stages with sections dating to the early or mid 19th century. Newark Valley (town), New York
Newark Valley is a town in Tioga County, New York, United States. The population was 3,660 at the 2020 census. The town is named after the city of Newark, New Jersey. The Town of Newark Valley contains a village also named Newark Valley. The town is located in the northeast part of the county and is northwest of Binghamton. History The first permanent settlers arrived around 1791. This area was called Brown's Settlement and was part of the Town of Berkshire until it was organized as the "Town of Westville" in 1823. In 1824, the town changed its name to "Newark," at the suggestion of a settler from New Jersey, but then changed the name to Newark Valley in 1862, to avoid conflict with the name of a village in Wayne County. Tioga County is a county in the U.S. state of New York. As of the 2020 census, the population was 48,455. Its county seat is Owego. Its name derives from an American Indian word meaning "at the forks", describing a meeting place. Tioga County is part of the Binghamton, NY Metropolitan Statistical Area. Queen Anne Style Architecture In The United States
Queen Anne style architecture was one of a number of popular Victorian architectural styles that emerged in the United States during the period from roughly 1880 to 1910. Popular there during this time, it followed the Second Empire and Stick styles and preceded the Richardsonian Romanesque and Shingle styles. Sub-movements of Queen Anne include the Eastlake movement. The style bears almost no relationship to the original Queen Anne style architecture in Britain (a toned-down version of English Baroque that was used mostly for gentry houses) which appeared during the time of Queen Anne, who reigned from 1702 to 1714, nor of Queen Anne Revival (which appeared in the latter 19th century there).
