Manzanillo (sternwheeler)
''Manzanillo'' was a stern-wheel driven steamboat built at Portland, Oregon in 1881. ''Manzanillo'' was first run on the Columbia River route from Portland to Clatskanie, Oregon and way points along the river. The initial owner of the boat was the People's Freighting Company, but the Shaver family soon acquired control of the vessel, which became the first vessel of what is now Shaver Transportation Company. ''Manzanillo'' also served on the upper Willamette River, the lower Willamette (between Portland and Oregon City. The boat was also reported to have been employed on the Lake River. The Shavers sold ''Manzanillo'' in 1892. The new owners ran ''Manzanillo'' for a short time, then dismantled it and reused the engines on a new steamer they built. Clatskanie, Oregon
Clatskanie is a city in Columbia County, Oregon, United States. It was named for the Tlatskanai Native American tribe, and the Clatskanie River which flows through the town and empties into the Columbia River about four miles to the north. The population was 1,737 at the 2010 census. History The town was originally called Bryantville after the large family who were among the first filers of Donation Land Claims in the area in 1852-53. However, the first postmaster, Enoch Conyers, who was married to one of the Bryant daughters, changed the name to Clatskanie after the Tlatskanai Native American tribe. Smith, ''Tlatskanai'' was a point in the Nehalem River that was reached from the Columbia River by way of the Youngs River or by way of the Clatskanie River.
