Manypeaks is a town located 434 km south-east of Perth and 38 km north-east of Albany in the Great Southern region of Western Australia. The township is on the South Coast Highway close to the intersection with Howie Road. The closest towns to Manypeaks are both on the South Coast highway and are Albany to the south-west and Wellstead to the east. The town lies close to the three lakes of the Lake Pleasant View System Important Bird Area. History The government of Western Australia first developed the area in 1949 as part of the Many Peaks Land Settlement project and established the townsite. Albany is a Legislative Assembly electorate in the state of Western Australia. Albany is named for the port and regional city of Western Australia which falls within its borders. It is one of the oldest electorates in Western Australia, with its first member having been elected in the inaugural 1890 elections of the Legislative Assembly. Albany ( ; nys, Kinjarling) is a port city in the Great Southern region in the Australian state of Western Australia, southeast of Perth, the state capital. The city centre is at the northern edge of Princess Royal Harbour, which is a part of King George Sound. South Coast Highway
South Coast Highway is a Western Australian highway. It is a part of the Highway 1 network. With a length of , it runs from Esperance to Walpole roughly in parallel to Western Australia's south coast. Even then the journey is pretty much inland. Approximately from Ravensthorpe lies the Fitzgerald River National Park with beaches, coastal and mountain walking trails and wildflowers. There are three more national parks with abundant wildlife along the journey to Walpole. Albany is a former whaling town and is rich in history. Wellstead, Western Australia
Wellstead is a small rural town situated in Western Australia in the Great Southern region between Albany and Esperance. The name commemorates the Wellstead family who settled in the area in 1860 and had held grazing land between Cape Riche and Bremer Bay. Farmland was opened up in the area in the 1960s for cereal cropping and land was set aside for a town site. The town site was gazetted in 1965 shortly after establishing a telephone exchange. John Wellstead still lived in the area in 1881 and sold 700 head of cattle via the market in Albany early the same year. He died in Albany in 1896 but his sons, including John Jr., continued the family pastoral interests in the area. The surrounding areas produce wheat and other cereal crops. Lake Pleasant View System Important Bird Area
The Lake Pleasant View System Important Bird Area comprises three shallow freshwater lakes, about five kilometres apart from each other. The lakes lie near the town of Manypeaks, and 35 km north-east of Albany, in the Great Southern region of south-west Western Australia. Description The lakes include Lake Pleasant View, with North Sister East and North Sister West Lakes. They are characterised by closed communities of sedges forming freshwater marshes on peat substrates. Mount Manypeaks is a distinctive peak located approximately north-east of Albany, north-east of Two Peoples Bay and south-east of the town of Manypeaks, in Western Australia.
