Manurewa
Manurewa is a major suburb in South Auckland, New Zealand. It was part of Manukau City before the creation of the Auckland super city in 2010. It is located south of the Manukau, Manukau City Centre, and southeast of Auckland CBD. The suburb is bisected by the Auckland Southern Motorway. Real estate values in Manurewa vary greatly. ''Manurewa'' is Māori language, Māori for "drifting kite". The name refers to a kite flying competition where a kite line was severed and drifted away. The kite's owner was the chief Tamapahore who had a pā (fortified village) on Matukutururu, Matuku-tururu (Wiri Mountain). The name Manurewa commemorates the incident by the name. Manurewa has a high proportion of non-European ethnicities, making it one of the most multi-cultural suburbs in New Zealand. Manurewa-Papakura Ward is an Auckland Council ward which elects two councillors and covers the Manurewa and Papakura Local Boards. The two councillors are currently Angela Dalton and Daniel Newman. Auckland Council
Auckland Council ( mi, Te Kaunihera o Tāmaki Makaurau) is the local government council for the Auckland Region in New Zealand. It is a territorial authority that has the responsibilities, duties and powers of a regional council and so is a unitary authority, according to the Local Government (Auckland Council) Act 2009, which established the council. Manurewa East is a suburb of Auckland, New Zealand. Formerly part of Manukau City, it is now under the local governance of Auckland Council, following the merger of Manukau City Council with all of Auckland's other councils in 2010 to form a single authority. Manurewa Train Station
Manurewa railway station is a station serving the suburb of Manurewa in Auckland, New Zealand. It is located on the Southern Line of the Auckland railway network. The station has a side platform layout connected by a pedestrian bridge. The station has a large park-and-ride facility and interchange with many local bus services. It is located between the SouthMall Shopping Centre and the Manurewa Work and Income office. History Manurewa's first station, opened in 1875, had a center-platform layout and was located behind what is now the Russell Road Reserve. From the north it was accessible from a connection to the Jutland Road bridge. Clendon Park
Clendon Park is a suburb of Auckland in northern New Zealand. It is located to the west of Manurewa and north of Weymouth. The suburb is in the Manurewa-Papakura ward, one of the 21 local boards of Auckland Council. History Clendon Park is named after Captain James Reddy Clendon who in 1840 traded land he owned in the Bay of Islands with the newly formed New Zealand Government for 10,000 acres (40 km2) of land, then south of Auckland CBD. The name Clendon Park was chosen in October 1976 by the Manukau City Council. Wattle Downs
Wattle Downs is a suburb of South Auckland, New Zealand. The suburb is located in the Wattle farm peninsula of the Manukau Harbour and is in the Manurewa-Papakura ward, one of the thirteen administrative divisions of Auckland Council. It is south of the Auckland CBD and south of Manukau city centre. The closest town centre is Manurewa. It also includes the area of Wattle Cove and Mahia Park. Development History Wattle Downs gets its name from the 200-acre blackwood and silver leaf wattle grove planted on the peninsula in 1884 by farmer Mr White for an extract from the bark used in the tanning of skins. Homai
Homai is a suburb of Auckland in New Zealand surrounded by Manukau Central, Wiri, Hillpark, Clendon Park and Manurewa. It was formerly under the local governance of the Manukau City Council. It has since been integrated with the rest of Auckland under Auckland Council in 2010. History In the early 1920s, local residents of Manurewa, including John Dreadon, lobbied the Manurewa Town Board for the creation of a second train station in the area, which opened in 1924. The train station was named Homai, suggested by Auckland resident Maurice Harding, referring to the gift of land and financing that Dreadon and his neighbours gave to create the station. Hillpark, Auckland
Hillpark is a suburb in Auckland, New Zealand. It is bordered by suburbs of The Gardens on the east and Manurewa on the south. It was formerly part of Manukau City until the 2010 amalgamation of all of Auckland's councils, and is now under the governance of Auckland Council. In 2016 Auckland Council recognised Hillpark as a Special Character Area. South Auckland
South Auckland is an imprecisely defined urban area of Auckland, New Zealand, with a young population, a relatively large Polynesian and Māori demographic, and lower incomes than other parts of Auckland. The name ''South Auckland'', though not an official place name, has come into common use For example: among New Zealanders. It also appears in the names of some organisations and companies.
