Vazgen Manukyan
Vazgen Mikayeli Manukyan (Armenian: , born 13 February 1946) is an Armenian politician who served as the first Prime Minister of Armenia from 1990 to 1991. From 1992 to 1993, during the First Nagorno-Karabakh War, Manukyan was acting Defence Minister of Armenia. He was also a member of Armenia's parliament from 1990 to 2007. Vazgen Manukyan was a co-founder and the coordinator of the Karabakh Committee (officially founded in February 1988), the body which led the Karabakh movement aimed at uniting Nagorno-Karabakh with Soviet Armenia. He was arrested by Soviet authorities on December 10, 1988, along with other members of the Karabakh Committee, and spent 6 months in Moscow's Matrosskaya Tishina prison. Mkhitar Manukyan ( hy, Մխիթար Մանուկյան, born 20 September 1973) is a retired Armenian- Kazakh Greco-Roman wrestler. He competed at the 1996, 2000 and 2004 Olympics and won a bronze medal in 2004. He also won a world title in 1998 and 1999 and an Asian title in 1997 and 1999. Biography Mkhitar Manukyan was born 20 September 1973 in Leninakan (now Gyumri), Armenia. He took up Greco-Roman wrestling at the age of ten. Manukyan lost both of his parents and a sister in the 1988 Armenian earthquake. According to him, this tragedy helped him in wrestling. Aghasi Manukyan ( hy, Աղասի Մանուկյան, 27 February 1967 – 19 March 2018) was an Armenian Greco-Roman wrestler. He was a World Cup winner and World Champion. Manukyan earned the Honoured Master of Sports of the USSR Master of Sports of International Class title in 1987. Arman Manukyan ( hy, Արման Մանուկյան, 21 March 1931 – 28 December 2012) was a Turkish lecturer, writer, and economist of Armenian descent. Biography Arman Manukyan was born in the Tahta Minare neighborhood of Istanbul. His father Artin fought in the Çanakkale War and was decorated with the '' İstiklal'' (Independence) Medal of the emerging Turkish Republic. Matild Manukyan (Armenian: Մաթիլդ Մանուկյան) (1914 – 17 February 2001) was a wealthy Turkish businesswoman of Armenian descent. She was a real property investor and madam who made a fortune in the brothel business, whereby she became the top taxpayer in Istanbul for five consecutive years during the 1990s. Edward Manukyan (born July 27, 1981) is a composer from Southern California, United States. His main works are orchestral and chamber compositions, which lean heavily upon elements of Armenian national folklore. Early life It was not until his last years in high school that Manukyan showed interest in composing music. In 1997, he won state scholarship to study languages and psychology at the Yerevan State Linguistic University. During his student years, he committed himself to studying music and immediately began concentrating on composition. (19 March 187929 January 1919), was an Armenian revolutionary, statesman, and a leading member of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation (Dashnaktsutyun) party. Early life Born in Vanadzor, Manukian graduated from the Hovhannes Tumanyan State Pedagogical University with a degree in physics. Alexander Manoogian ( hy, Ալեք Մանուկեան; June 28, 1901 – July 10, 1996) was an Armenian-American industrial engineer, businessman, entrepreneur and philanthropist who spent most of his career in Detroit, Michigan. He was the founder of the Masco Corporation, which in 1969 was listed on the NYSE (XNYS:MAS). In 1954, he patented and brought to market the first successful washerless ball valve faucet, the Delta faucet, named for the faucet cam shaped like the fourth letter of the Greek alphabet.
