Manuel Oreste Rodriguez Lopez Literary Contest
The Manuel Oreste Literary Contest is a literary contest hosted by Paradela City Council. The award ceremony is held in the Manuel Rodriguez Lopez Socio-Cultural Centre, Paradela on a yearly basis. The contest is open to writers and poets writing in either the Galician or Spanish languages, with prizes given out to the winners of each category. It is hosted in the name of the Galician poet, author and chronicler Manuel Rodriguez Lopez, and has been held every year without interruptions since 1995, with the award ceremony for the 18th Edition scheduled for December 2013. Criteria Writers and Poets from anywhere in the world writing in Galician or Spanish are eligible to submit their work to the contest. The work must be maximum 20 pages long, and poetry must be maximum 100 verses long. The work must be original and unedited, and must not have won any other contest. Paradela, Lugo
Paradela is a municipality in Lugo province in Galicia in north-west Spain. It is situated in the region of Sarria. There were 2,193 people living in Paradela as of 2008 (1,101 men and 1,092 women). It is known for the connection it has with the Way of St. James. The French route of such a way, ending in Santiago de Compostela, passes through five parishes of Paradela: Ferreiros, Francos, Laxe, Cortes and Loio. The Manuel Rodriguez Lopez Socio-Cultural Centre is a centre with library facilities, computer and a large social space dedicated to the poet, writer and chronicler Manuel Rodriguez Lopez Manuel Oreste Rodríguez López (11 December 1934, in Paradela, Lugo, Paradela, Lugo, Spain – 13 February 1990 Lugo) was a Galician poet and writer. Manuel Rodriguez Lopez
Manuel Oreste Rodríguez López (11 December 1934, in Paradela, Lugo, Paradela, Lugo, Spain – 13 February 1990 Lugo) was a Galician poet and writer. Biography Manuel Rodriguez Lopez was born in 1934 in a hamlet in the region of Paradela, Lugo, Paradela. When he was six years old, he moved to Barcelona, and in 1987, he returned to Lugo. He studied Philosophy and Humanities at the Diocesan Seminary of Barcelona from 1946 to 1952. He then studied accounting and labour legislation. He worked as the head of the department of administrative staff in a motorcycle industry (OSSA). He married Irene Lopez Gomez (O Páramo), and fathered two sons. He died from a stroke in Lugo in 1990. Throughout his life he showed great concern for culture and Galicia (Spain), Galicia during his long emigration in Catalonia, where he became the chronicler of all acts related to Galicia celebrated in Catalonia, as once established in Lugo. Prose
