Manuel Flores (American Politician)
Manuel "Manny" Flores (born January 21, 1972) is the Director of the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation - Division of Banking . A member of the Democratic Party, Flores was elected to the Chicago City Council in 2003. He was the youngest alderman on the Council and represented part of the city's near Northwest Side. Flores is a noted advocate for government transparency and the development of Chicago's green economy. Early life Flores was born in El Paso, Texas, but raised in suburban Northlake, Illinois, where he attended West Leyden High School. He received his bachelor's degree in political science at Dominican University in River Forest, Illinois, and his law degree from George Washington University Law School. Luis Vicente Gutiérrez (born December 10, 1953) is an American politician. He served as the U.S. representative for from 1993 to 2019. From 1986 until his election to Congress, he served as a member of the Chicago City Council representing the 26th ward. He is a member of the Democratic Party and was a member of the Congressional Progressive Caucus during his tenure in the House. Chicago Mayoral Election, 2011
The city of Chicago, Illinois held a nonpartisan mayoral election on Tuesday, February 22, 2011. Incumbent Mayor Richard Michael Daley, a member of the Democratic Party who had been in office since 1989, did not seek a seventh term as mayor. This was the first election since 1947 in which an incumbent mayor of Chicago did not seek reelection. Candidates needed to collect 12,500 petition signatures by November 22, 2010 to qualify for a place on the ballot. April 5, 2011 was scheduled to be a runoff election date if no candidate received an absolute majority. Rahm Emanuel won the race for mayor with more than 55% of the vote. He was inaugurated on May 16, 2011. The election saw what was, at the time, the most candidates running on the ballot of any Chicago mayoral election since 1919.
