The Manuel Ezequiel Bruzual Municipality is one of the 21 municipalities (municipios) that makes up the eastern Venezuelan state of Anzoátegui and, according to the 2011 census by the National Institute of Statistics of Venezuela, the municipality has a population of 32,655. History When the Franciscan friars arrived in 1650, there was already a native community at Clarines. Clarines was officially founded on April 7, 1594, by Francisco de Vides, a Spanish adventurer who came from the Huelva Province. The town did not change much until the oil boom of the 1960s. Alfredo Armas Alfonzo
Alfredo Armas Alfonzo (6 August 1921 in Clarines, Anzoátegui, Venezuela, - 9 November 1990 in Caracas, Venezuela) was a Venezuelan writer, critic, editor and historian, well known throughout Latin America. He was a master of the modern fable, a precursor of what soon would be called magical realism. Alfonzo grew up in the Llanos of interior Venezuela, Clarines, Puerto Píritu and Cumaná, and later attended the first classes at the new journalism school of the Central University of Venezuela in Caracas. He worked for the Postal Service in Barcelona, Venezuela and petroleum companies in new towns established in eastern Venezuela, and worked as the eastern correspondent for the Caracas newspaper El Nacional. Huelva Province
Huelva () is a province of southern Spain, in the western part of the autonomous community of Andalusia. Manuel Ezequiel Bruzual (Santa Marta, Colombia, 1830 – Curaçao, 15 August 1868), was a military leader committed to liberal ideas, also in charge of the War and Navy Ministry in 1864, and in 1868 was designated provisional president of Venezuela. Biography Bruzual participated actively in the Federal War, being known as the ''Courageous soldier of Federation'', fought in ''Purereche, Santa Ines, Buchivacoa'', Barquisimeto and Portuguesa. Later, once the Federalist movement took government, President Juan Crisóstomo Falcón designated him as War and Navy minister (1864), resigning to the position after being imprisoned for the charges of conspiring. Clarines
Clarines is a town in Venezuela's Anzoátegui State, located on the right bank of the Unare River. It serves as the administrative centre for the surrounding Manuel Ezequiel Bruzual Municipality. It is located on Venezuela Route 11 (Troncal 11) and Route 9 (Troncal 9). Route 9 connects it to Caracas to the west and Barcelona to the east. The town is from Puerto La Cruz, and from Puerto Piritu. The estimated population was 15,000 in 2007.
