Manteuffel
The House of Manteuffel is the name of an old and influential German Pomeranian noble family, which later also resided in Brandenburg, Prussia, Silesia, Mecklenburg, Poland, the Baltics and in Russia. History Manteuffel family was first mentioned in 1256, but the family history officially begins with ''Henricus Manduvel'' who is first mentioned on 14. November 1287. The family was one of the oldest and most distinguished one in the region of Westphalia. On 10 March 1709 the family was raised to the title of Baron, while in 1719 they were raised to the hereditary title of Count. On 25 August 1790 the family received the title of Imperial Count from Charles Theodore, Elector of Bavaria as an Imperial vicar. Hasso Von Manteuffel
Freiherr Hasso Eccard von Manteuffel (14 January 1897 – 24 September 1978) was a German baron born to the Prussian noble von Manteuffel family and was a general during World War II who commanded the 5th Panzer Army. He was a recipient of the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross with Oak Leaves, Swords and Diamonds of Nazi Germany. After the war, he was elected to the Bundestag (West German legislature) and was the spokesman for defense of the Free Democratic Party. A proponent of rearmament, he was responsible for coining the new name for the post-World War II German armed forces, the Bundeswehr. Early career Hasso von Manteuffel began his military career during the First World War. In 1919, he joined the ''Freikorps'' and then the newly created ''Reichswehr''. Heinrich Von Manteuffel
Heinrich von Manteuffel (7 November 1696 – 10 July 1778), was a Prussian lieutenant general. He participated in the Pomeranian campaign of 1715 and the first two of Frederick's Silesian wars, was wounded at Chotusitz, and commanded an infantry regiment at the beginning of the Seven Years' War. He received the Order of the Black Eagle, the Order Pour le Merite and his name is inscribed on the Equestrian statue of Frederick the Great. Otto Theodor von Manteuffel (3 February 1805 – 26 November 1882) was a conservative Prussian statesman, serving nearly a decade as prime minister. Biography Born into an aristocratic family in Lübben (Spreewald), Manteuffel attended the Landesschule Pforta from 1819. In 1824–1827, he studied jurisprudence and cameralism at the University of Halle, where he joined the Corps Saxonia Halle, a duelling ''Studentenverbindung'' in the Kösener Senioren-Convents-Verband ("KSCV"). In 1830, Manteuffel commenced his clerkship in law. Sabine Doering-Manteuffel (born Sabine Künsting) is a German ethnologist. On 1 October 2011 she became the first woman to accept the appointment as president (''university rector'') of the University of Augsburg. She thereby became the first president/rector of a university in Bavaria. Biography Sabine Künsting was born and grew up in Bonn, which at that time was the "provisional capital" of the Federal Republic of Germany. Kurt Nikolai Zoege von Manteuffel (8 August 1881 – 10 January 1941) was a Baltic German art historian. Kurt Zoege von Manteuffel was born in present-day Tallinn, Estonia (then part of the Russian Empire) and spent his childhood in Estonia. His father belonged to the Baltic nobility and his mother was Danish. He studied in Kassel and Königsberg and at the universities in Munich, Halle and Berlin. In 1909 he earned his doctoral degree; his dissertation was about Pisanello. Felix von Manteuffel (born Friedrich Karl Baron von Manteuffel-Szoege 6 May 1945) is a German actor. Manteuffel was born in Bayrischzell to a family of Baltic-German origin. He visited an actors school in Munich in 1967-70 and first appeared on a stage in 1969 in Bertolt Brecht's ''Die Ausnahme und die Regel'' at the Munich Kammerspiele and became a member of the Kammerspiele ensemble in 1972 (until 1984).
