Manorama (Hindi Actress)
Manorama (16 August 1926 – 15 February 2008) was an Indian character actress in Bollywood known best for her role as the comical tyrant aunt in ''Seeta Aur Geeta'' (1972) and in films such as ''Ek Phool Do Maali'' (1969) and ''Do Kaliyaan'' (1968). She started her career as a child artiste in 1936 in Lahore, under the name Baby Iris. Thereafter, she made her debut as an adult actress in 1941, and performed to her final role in ''Water'' in 2005, her career extending over 60 years. Through her career she acted in over 160 films. After playing heroine roles in the early 1940s, she settled into playing villainous or comic roles. She played comic roles in superhit films such as ''Half Ticket'' appearing alongside Kishore Kumar and the legendary Madhubala. Manorama (Tamil Actress)
Gopishantha (26 May 1937 – 10 October 2015), better known by her stage name Manorama, also called Aachi, was an Indian actress, playback singer and comedian who had appeared in more than 1000 films and 5000 stage performances and several television series predomninantely in the Tamil language until 2015. She was a recipient of the Kalaimamani award. In 2002, Government of India awarded Manorama the Padma Shri for her contribution to the arts. She received the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in the film ''Pudhiya Padhai'' (1989) and Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award – South (1995). Manorama Madhwaraj
Manorama Madhwaraj is an Indian politician, Social worker and officeholder who was the first woman cabinet minister of India elected as an MLA in the 5th, 8th and 9th Karnataka Legislative Assembly. On all of these occasions she was elected from Udupi constituency and was a member of the Indian National Congress. She was also member of the 14th Lok Sabha of India. She represented the Udupi constituency of Karnataka and was a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) political party. Manorama Thampuratti
Manorama Thampuratti was an 18th-century Sanskrit scholar. She belonged to Kizhakke Kovilakam of Kottakkal, a branch of the Zamorin dynasty of Kozhikode. Being a member of the royal family, she was fortunate to get a traditional Sanskrit education, which was not common for women at that time. She mastered the language and so got access to the treasure of knowledge on various ''sastras'' at a young age. She composed several verses in Sanskrit and was known all over Kerala as a gifted poet. However, except for few shlokas, not much is available of her work. Ruth Manorama
Ruth Manorama (born 30 May 1952) is a Dalit social activist from Bangalore, India who fights for Dalit women's rights, the rights of domestic workers and those in the unorganized labour sector, as well as urban slum dwellers. In 2006, she was awarded the Right Livelihood Award. Early life and education Ruth Manorama was born on 30 May 1952 to Dorothy & Paul Dhanraj, the eldest daughter among five girls and three boys. Thangjam Manorama
Thangjam Manorama (1971–2004) was a 32-year-old woman from Manipur, India who was killed by the Indian paramilitary unit, 17th Assam Rifles on 11 July 2004. Her bullet-ridden and badly mutilated dead body was found abandoned three kilometers away from her home where she was arrested the night before. She was shot several times. Investigations revealed that she was tortured and raped before being killed but there was involvement of Assam Rifles. Disparities in official version At the time of the arrest, no incriminating items were found, as per the arrest memo. Later it was stated that a grenade and other items had been seized from her home. Assam Rifles claimed that she was shot while trying to escape. However, no blood was found near the body despite six bullet wounds. No soldier was identified as having tried to run or detain her. Manorama Radio
Radio Mango is an Indian FM Radio network channel headquartered in Kochi, Kerala. Radio Mango started broadcasting from Kozhikode as Kerala's first Malayalam private FM station on 29 November 2007. It was established as a venture of the Malayala Manorama group, and its programming includes entertainment, music and news. It has satellite stations in Kochi, Thrissur, Kozhikode, Kannur, and Alappuzha.
