Manolín (footballer, Born 1928)
Manuel Martínez Canales (21 May 1928 – 25 July 2014), known as Manolín was a Spanish professional footballer who played as a midfielder. Career Born in Getxo, Manolín played for first division sides Athletic Bilbao, Real Madrid and Real Zaragoza. He retired in 1960 after short spells with Segunda División sides Recreativo de Huelva and SD Indautxu. Manolín earned one cap for the Spanish national side, playing against Argentina in Buenos Aires on 5 July 1953. Death He died on 25 July 2014 at the age of 86. Getxo () is a town located in the province of Biscay, in the autonomous community of the Basque Country, in Spain. It is part of Greater Bilbao, and has 77,946 inhabitants (2019). Getxo is mostly an affluent residential area, as well as being the third largest municipality of Biscay. The 1955–56 European Cup was the first season of the European Cup, UEFA's premier club football tournament. The tournament was won by Real Madrid, who defeated Stade de Reims 4–3 in the final at Parc des Princes, Paris, on 13 June 1956.
