Manners Sutton Parish, New Brunswick
Manners Sutton is a civil parish in York County, New Brunswick, Canada. Prior to the 2023 governance reform, for governance purposes it was divided between the village of Harvey and the local service district of the parish of Manners Sutton, both of which were members of the Southwest New Brunswick Service Commission (SNBSC). Origin of name The parish was named in honour of John Manners-Sutton, 3rd Viscount Canterbury, Lieutenant Governor of New Brunswick at the time. Canterbury Parish was erected at the same time. The Canadian province of New Brunswick is divided by the ''Territorial Division Act'' into 152 parishes, units which had political significance as subdivisions of counties until the Municipalities Act of 1966. Parishes still exist in law and include any municipality, rural community, or regional municipality within their borders. Briggs & Little Woolen Mills Ltd. is a manufacturer of wool knitting yarns in York Mills, near Harvey Station, New Brunswick, Canada. A woollen mill has existed on the site since 1857, operating under the current name since 1916. History The original mill was built in 1857 by George Lister, who also operated a gristmill and a sawmill in an area near Harvey Station, New Brunswick that came to be known as York Mills. The mills were powered by dams on the Magaguadavic River. During the succeeding decades the woollen mill changed ownership several times, and the original structure burned in 1908. The mill was rebuilt and was operated by members of the Little family as Little's Woollen Mill until 1916 when it was renamed Briggs & Little after its new owners Matthew Briggs and Howard Little. The Magaguadavic River ( ; french: Rivière Magaguadavic) is an historic Canadian river located in the province of New Brunswick. The name "Magaguadavic" is a Maliseet / Passamaquoddy term that is believed to translate into "River of Eels". New Brunswick Route 3
Route 3 is 92 kilometres long and goes from Route 170 in St. Stephen to Route 2 (the Trans-Canada Highway) at Longs Creek, near Fredericton. From St. Stephen, Route 3 goes north along the west bank of Dennis Stream, through the community of Moores Mills. The road turns northeast through Lawrence Station and mostly uninhabited land to meet Route 4 near York Mills. From there, Route 3 continues in a northeasterly direction through Harvey Station, then turns north to the Trans-Canada Highway at Longs Creek. Hanwell, New Brunswick
Hanwell is an incorporated rural community and former local service district within Kingsclear Parish in York County, New Brunswick, Canada. It is located on Route 640 immediately southwest of Fredericton. On 1 January 2023, Hanwell annexed the northern part the local service district of the parish of Kingsclear, including the communities of French Village, Island View, and Mazerolle Settlement; the annexed communities' names remain in official use. Revised census figures have not been released. History Hanwell was named by Thomas Baillie, who was born at Hanwell, West London, England. Baillie brought Irish immigrants over to settle in the area in 1825. Originally a local service district (LSD) and a farming community, two residential subdivisions were constructed in Hanwell in the 1970s.
