Lake Manitou is the largest lake on Manitoulin Island in Ontario, Canada. With an area of , it is the largest lake on a lake island in the world. It is drained by the Manitou River. There are several small islands in Lake Manitou, such as Roper Island and Bear Island in the very south of the western lobe of the lake, and McCracken's Island in the neck connecting the two lobes, making them islands in a lake on an island in a lake. However, none of the islands are as large as Treasure Island in a neighboring, smaller lake on Manitou Island. Lake Manitou (french: Lac Manitou) is a lake located in the unorganized territory of Lac-Jérôme, in the Minganie Regional County Municipality, in the Côte-Nord, in the province of Quebec, Canada. The Manitou River flows through the lake from north to south, and continues to the Gulf of Saint Lawrence. Location It is one of three large lakes on the Manitou River, the others being Aigle Lake in the north and Eudist Lake in the south. It is in the center-south of the Manitou River basin and covers . The lake is almost long but only wide, formed by flooding an old trough-shaped glacial valley with steep sides that rise to over in places. The lake is from the river's mouth. Little Manitou Lake
Little Manitou Lake is a small saltwater lake about 120 kilometres south-east of Saskatoon in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan. The lake was formed by receding glaciers during the most recent ice age. It is fed by underground springs, and has a mineral content high in sodium, magnesium, and potassium salts due to it being a terminal lake. The salt content of the water (180 g/L) gives it a salinity about half of that of the Dead Sea (300-400 ppt), allowing bathers to float easily. The lake falls within the Lanigan-Manitou Sub-basin of the Upper Qu'Appelle watershed. There is no fishing as the high salt content of the water supports little other than brine shrimp. Manitou Lake (Saskatchewan)
Manitou Lake is a salt lake located mostly in the RM of Manitou Lake No. 422 in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan, about away from the provincial border with Alberta. The eastern shore of the lake is in the RM of Hillsdale No. 440. Manitou Lake is located in a region called the Prairie Pothole Region of North America, which extends throughout three Canadian provinces and five U.S. states. It is also within Palliser's Triangle and the Great Plains ecoregion. Because the lake is an endorheic lake and quite salty, there are no fish in the lake. Manitou Island in the centre of the lake is now connected to the southern shore as the water level has lowered. Description The primary inflow for the lake is from Eyehill Creek at the south end. There are also many small springtime meltwater tributaries that feed the lake. Eyehill Creek originates in neighbouring Alberta from Sounding Lake, which in turn is fed by Sounding Creek. Lake Manitou is a man-made lake in Rochester, Indiana, created in 1827 by the federal government of the United States for the Potowatomi Native American tribe. The lake was created as a part of the treaty with the Potowatomi that required the U.S. government to create a mill for Potowatomi use. The Potowatomi originally called the lake Man-I-Toe which translated to the Devil's Lake due to the belief that a monster lived in the lake. North Manitou Island ( ) is located in Lake Michigan, approximately west-northwest of Leland, Michigan. It is nearly eight miles long and more than four miles (6 km) wide, with of shoreline. It has a land area of 57.876 km2 (22.346 sq mi) and has no population. The smaller South Manitou Island lies to its southwest. Description North Manitou Island is shaped like an upside-down teardrop, with the now-forested body of the 'drop' surrounding Lake Manitou, and the tail of the drop narrowing into sandy, exposed Dimmick's Point on the island's southeastern extremity.
