Provincial Road 457 (PR 457) is a provincial road in the southwest part of the Canadian province of Manitoba. Route description Provincial Road 457 is an east-west route and runs from PR 340 near Douglas to its terminus at PTH 1A (1st Street North) in Brandon. PR 457, along with PR 340, serves as the main connector route between Brandon and CFB Shilo. Because of this, and that it travels at a lower elevation than the Trans-Canada Highway, the road is known locally as the ''"Low Road to Shilo"''. PR 457 is a paved road for its entire length. Brandon () is the second-largest city in the province of Manitoba, Canada. It is located in the southwestern corner of the province on the banks of the Assiniboine River, approximately west of the provincial capital, Winnipeg, and east of the Saskatchewan border. Cornwallis is a rural municipality located in the Canadian province of Manitoba. It surrounds the east, south and west sides of Brandon, Manitoba. Most of the land comprising the municipality is farmland, but it contains a few settlements. One of the larger settlements, Sprucewoods, sits at the north gate of Canadian Forces Base Shilo and contains a large group of the municipal population. In the past, there has been friction between the community and the farming base that make up much of Cornwallis. The municipality is divided into six wards, each represented by one councillor. Manitoba Provincial Road 340 is a provincial road in the southwestern section of the Canadian province of Manitoba. Route description The route begins at PTH 2 south of Wawanesa, and terminates at the Trans-Canada Highway just north of Douglas. PR 340 is the main road that serves CFB Shilo. The route is paved at the northern and southern ends of the route, with a large gravel section connecting CFB Shilo with Treesbank. History PR 340 was originally a much longer provincial road in comparison to its current distance. In the early 1990s, the Manitoba government decommissioned a number of provincial secondary roads and returned the maintenance of these roads back to the rural municipalities. The section of the original PR 340 between Treesbank and Belmont was included in this decommissioning. Prior to this, PR 340 started at PTH 3 near Holmfield. Provincial Trunk Highway 1A (PTH 1A) is the name used for two provincial primary highways located in the Canadian province of Manitoba. One is located within the city of Portage la Prairie and the other, within and west of the city of Brandon. Portage la Prairie section The section of PTH 1A at Portage la Prairie is also known as Saskatchewan Avenue and like most alternate spurs, it was the old route of PTH 1 until its current alignment was built. The highway is an alternate route that goes through Portage la Prairie. The highway in Portage la Prairie is westbound and eastbound. The speed limit is within city limits unless otherwise posted, becoming on both sides approaching PTH 1. CFB Shilo
Canadian Forces Base Shilo (CFB Shilo; french: Base des Forces canadiennes Shilo — BFC Shilo) is an operations and training base of the Canadian Armed Forces, located east of Brandon, Manitoba and adjacent to Sprucewoods. During the 1990s, Canadian Forces Base Shilo was also designated as an Area Support Unit, which acts as a local base of operations for south-west Manitoba in times of military and civil emergency. It is located at the very southwest corner of the Municipality of North Cypress – Langford, and the very northwest corner of the Municipality of Glenboro – South Cypress.
