Manions Of America
''The Manions of America'' is a 6-hour mini-series for American television made in 1981. The subject of the series were Irish immigrants to the United States during the Great Famine of the mid-19th century. It was directed by Joseph Sargent and created by Agnes Nixon, creator of the now-defunct '' All My Children,'' a hit daytime TV soap opera that aired on the ABC television network for over 40 years. British dramatist Rosemary Anne Sisson joined Nixon as co-writer. Great Famine (Ireland)
The Great Famine ( ga, an Gorta Mór ), also known within Ireland as the Great Hunger or simply the Famine and outside Ireland as the Irish Potato Famine, was a period of starvation and disease in Ireland from 1845 to 1852 that constituted a historical social crisis which subsequently had a major impact on Irish society and history as a whole. Joseph Sargent
Joseph Sargent (born Giuseppe Danielle Sorgente; July 22, 1925 – December 22, 2014) was an American film director. Though he directed many television movies, his best known feature-length works were arguably the action movie '' White Lightning'' starring Burt Reynolds, the biopic '' MacArthur'' starring Gregory Peck, and the horror anthology ''Nightmares''. His most popular feature film was the subway thriller '' The Taking of Pelham One Two Three''. Sargent won four Emmy Awards over his career. He is the father of voice actress Lia Sargent. Agnes Nixon ( Eckhardt; December 10, 1922 – September 28, 2016) was an American television writer and producer, and the creator of the ABC soap operas '' One Life to Live'', '' All My Children'', as well as '' Loving'' and its spin-off '' The City. Nixon's work as producer and writer expanded storylines for American daytime television – the first health-related storyline, the first storyline related to the Vietnam War, as well as both the first televised lesbian kiss and abortion. She won five Writers' Guild of America Awards, five Daytime Emmy Awards, and in 2010 received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. Steve Forrest (born William Forrest Andrews; September 29, 1925 – May 18, 2013) was an American actor who was well known for his role as Lt. Hondo Harrelson in the hit television series ''S.W.A.T.'' which was broadcast on ABC from 1975 to 1976. He was also known for his performance in ''Mommie Dearest'' (1981).
