Shamsul Islam Khan
Shamsul Islam Khan (known as Naya Miah; died on 21 January 2006) was a Bangladesh Nationalist Party politician and a former Jatiya Sangsad member representing the Manikganj-4 constituency and a former minister of industries at the first Khaleda Zia cabinet. Career Khan served as the president of Abahani Limited Dhaka from 1978 to 1982. He was elected to Parliament in 1991 from Manikganj-4 as a candidate of Bangladesh Nationalist Party. From 1991 to 1996 he served as the Minister of Industries in the First Khaleda Zia Cabinet. He was elected in 2001 to parliament from Manikganj-4. He was elected four times from Manikganj-4 constituency. Manikganj ( bn, মানিকগঞ্জ ) is a district in central Bangladesh. It is a part of the Dhaka Division, In 1845 AD it was at first declared as a sub-division. It was at first, under Faridpur district (Faridpur Zila) then it was included under Dhaka district (Dhaka Zila) in 1956 for the administrative purposes. Jatiya Sangsad
The Jatiya Sangsad ( bn, জাতীয় সংসদ, lit=National Parliament, translit=Jatiyô Sôngsôd), often referred to simply as the ''Sangsad'' or JS and also known as the House of the Nation, is the supreme legislative body of Bangladesh. The current parliament of Bangladesh contains 350 seats, including 50 seats reserved exclusively for women. Elected occupants are called Member of Parliament, or MP. 1986 Bangladeshi General Election
General elections were held in Bangladesh on 7 May 1986. A total of 1,527 candidates contested the election. The result was a victory for the Jatiya Party, which won 153 of the 300 seats. Voter turnout was 61.1%. Bangladesh Nationalist Party, the winner of the previous elections, boycotted the election. British observers including a journalist termed the elections a "tragedy for democracy" and a "cynically frustrated exercise". Jatiya Party (Ershad)
The Jatiya Party ( bn, জাতীয় পার্টি, translit=Jatiyo Party, lit=National Party) is a conservative, nationalist political party in Bangladesh and is currently the main opposition in the Jatiya Sangsad, against the Awami League. The current chairman of the party is Ghulam Muhammad Quader. On 3 January 2019, the party announced its decision to join the Bangladesh Awami League-led Grand Alliance after having been in opposition for the previous parliamentary term. However, the party backtracked the next day and announced that it intended to remain part of the opposition. Currently, it holds Rangpur out of Bangladesh's 12 city corporations. General elections were held in Bangladesh on 27 February 1991. The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) emerged as the largest party in parliament, winning 140 of the 300 directly-elected seats.
