''Manifest!'' is the only album from American band Friends, released in June 2012 on the Fat Possum label in the United States and on the Lucky Number label in Europe. Recording and release The album was recorded between Summer 2011 and Spring 2012 and produced by the band with the assistance of engineer Daniel Schlett at Strange Weather studios in Brooklyn. The tracks were mixed by the band and Schlett with the exception of "Mind Control" which was mixed by the band and Paul Epworth.''Manifest!'' Friends (American Band)
Friends were a band from Brooklyn, New York formed in September 2010 and disbanded sometime in 2013. The band, originally named Perpetual Crush, consisted of Samantha Urbani (vocals), Lesley Hann (bass, percussion, backing vocals), Nikki Shapiro (guitar, keyboards, percussion), Matthew Molnar (keyboards, percussion, bass, and brother of Charley Molnar, former head football coach at UMass) and Oliver Duncan (drums). The group released the singles "Friend Crush" and "I'm His Girl" in 2011. On April 10, 2012, BBC Radio 1 DJ Huw Stephens selected the band's third single, "Mind Control", as his ''Hottest Record in the World''. Samantha Urbani
Samantha Urbani ( ; born September 18, 1987) is an American singer, songwriter, visual artist, filmmaker and producer from Mystic, Connecticut. She formed Friends; after three years, a trio of singles, and the album ''Manifest!'' on Fat Possum records the group disbanded. Urbani went on to collaborate and tour with Dev Hynes for several years before embarking on a solo career. Early life Urbani was born in New London, Connecticut to Robin and Bob Urbani on September 18, 1987, the younger of two siblings. The Urbani children were homeschooled by their mother, an experience Samantha recalls fondly, "She taught us about whatever we wanted to learn. We were interested in botany in second grade, so she took us on hikes around the woods to identify mushrooms. She wanted to expose us to different cultures and ideas, so when I was 10 she took us to live in Belize for a while". UK Albums Chart
The Official Albums Chart is a list of albums ranked by physical and digital sales and (from March 2015) audio streaming in the United Kingdom. It was published for the first time on 22 July 1956 and is compiled every week by the Official Charts Company (OCC) on Fridays (previously Sundays). It is broadcast on BBC Radio 1 (top 5) and found on the OCC website as a Top 100 or on UKChartsPlus as a Top 200, with positions continuing until all sales have been tracked in data only available to industry insiders. However, even though number 100 was classed as a hit album (as in the case of The Guinness Book of British Hit Albums) in the 1980s until January 1989, since the compilations were removed this definition was changed to Top 75 with follow-up books such as The Virgin Book of British Hit Albums book only including this data.
