Manhattan Beach Air Force Station was a United States Air Force installation located in Manhattan Beach, Brooklyn, New York City, and operational from 1954 to 1959. Built on land originally operated by the United States Maritime Service and the United States Coast Guard, it was later transferred to the Department of the Army, and later Kingsborough Community College. Sheepshead Bay Maritime Service Training Station
The United States Maritime Service Training Station at Sheepshead Bay was opened on September 1, 1942. It closed on February 28, 1954. The station was the largest maritime training station during World War II and was equipped to train 30,000 merchant seamen each year. The site is now occupied by Kingsborough Community College, and has been since the mid-1960s. The United States Maritime Service (USMS) was established in 1938 under the provisions of the Merchant Marine Act of 1936 as voluntary training organization to train individuals to become officers and crewmembers on merchant ships that form the United States Merchant Marine per .
