Mangal ( ps, منګل), born in Laghman is a prominent Afghan singer who started in the early 1970s. He and his ex-wife, Naghma, were a popular duo during the 1970s and early 1990s. Mangal sings in Pashto and Dari. His music is popular in Afghanistan, and Pakistan. Career Mangal was born in Laghman, Afghanistan. As a young boy, he developed an interest in music. Mangal joined with a musician-turned-singer Naghma ( ps, نغمه), a Pashtun from Kandahar Province of Afghanistan, and eventually married her. Mangal has since divorced from Naghma, remarried and resides in California. With impending civil war, the couple left Afghanistan for Pakistan in 1992. Mangal Bagh (1973 – 28 January 2021), also known as Mangal Bagh Afridi, was the leader of Lashkar-e-Islam, a militant group operating in Pakistan and Afghanistan. He was killed in a roadside bomb attack in Nangarhar, Afghanistan on 28 January 2021. Personal life Bagh was from the Bara Tehsil, and belonged to the Sepah Afridi (Pashtun), Afridi tribe. In his youth, he was ideologically affiliated with the Awami National Party (ANP) and used to wash cars at a taxi stand in Peshawar. Bagh then became a conductor of a bus operating between Bara and Peshawar and later became its driver. Bagh was not very educated as he attended only primary school in his native town. Mangal Pandey was an Indian soldier who played a key part in the events immediately preceding the outbreak of the Indian rebellion of 1857. He was a sepoy (infantryman) in the 34th Bengal Native Infantry (BNI) regiment of the British East India Company. In 1984, the Indian government issued a postage stamp to remember him. Mangal Raj Joshi (1920–2005) was the Royal Astrologer of Nepal, whose family worked for more than 20 generations for the Nepalese kings. Dr. Joshi holds a Ph.D. in Urban Study and Planning, and was a professor at Patan College. Joshi was also the chairman of the Nepal Panchang Nirnayak Samiti and vice chairman of the Asian Panchang Samiti. Mangal Singh Ramgarhia CSI (1800–1879) was a prominent Sikh leader, a Sardar, who participated in the first and second Anglo-Sikh wars. Later, he was appointed manager of the Golden Temple of Amritsar. He carried the title of "Sardar-i-Bawaqar" (the Sardar with Prestige). Mangal Singh was the son of Diwan Singh and grandson of Tara Singh Ramgarhia, a brother of the Sikh leader Jassa Singh Ramgarhia. He was heir to some of the estates of Jassa Singh's son Jodh Singh.
