Manfred Seissler
Manfred "Manny" Seissler ''(German: Manfred Seißler)'' (born August 8, 1939) is a former soccer player who began his career in the lower German divisions before moving to the United States. He played one season in the National Professional Soccer League and seven in the North American Soccer League. Born in Germany, he earned one cap with the U.S. national team in 1973. Club career Germany Born in Germany, Seissler began his career in 1960 with the KSV Hessen Kassel junior team. In 1961, he moved to the first team which competed in the Oberliga Süd, the southern conference of the German first division back then, which preceded the creation of the Bundesliga. In 1963, he moved to Regionalliga Süd (Second Division) club 1. FC Pforzheim. In 1965, he moved to SV Eintracht Trier 05 of the Second Division. United Soccer Association
The United Soccer Association was a professional soccer league featuring teams based in the United States and Canada. The league survived only one season before merging with the National Professional Soccer League to form the North American Soccer League. Every team in the league was actually an imported European or South America club, that was then outfitted with a "local" name. Dick Walsh served as the commissioner. Origins In 1966 a group of sports entrepreneurs, led by Jack Kent Cooke and including Lamar Hunt and Steve Stavro, formed a consortium known as the North American Soccer League with the intention of forming a professional soccer league in North America. Siegfried Stritzl (April 12, 1944 – November 3, 2022) was an American soccer player who was the 1969 North American Soccer League Rookie of the Year. He also earned eleven caps, scoring two goals, with the U.S. national team between 1968 and 1973. The Sigi Stritzl Award, given to exceptional high school and college students, is named in his honor. Professional career Stritzl was born in Yugoslavia. He spent six seasons with Blau-Weiss Gottschee of the German American Soccer League (GASL) between 1961 and 1968. In 1961, he was a member of the GASL Junior All Stars on a tour of Germany. In 1963, Blau Weiss-Gottschee won the GASL championship. In 1969, the Baltimore Bays of the North American Soccer League (NASL) signed Stritzl.
