Manfred Höner
Manfred Höner (1941-6 March 2021) was a German former football coach. Höner managed the Nigeria national team from 1987 to 1988, leading the team to second place at the 1988 Africa Cup of Nations, losing to Cameroon in the final. He was head coach when Nigeria made an appearance at the 1988 Summer Olympics. Höner also managed German club Eintracht Trier in 1991. In 2004, Höner was the technical director of the Qatar Football Association. Nigeria National Football Team
The Nigeria national football team represents Nigeria in men's international Association football, football. Governed by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), they are three-time Africa Cup of Nations winners, with their most recent title in 2013 Africa Cup of Nations, 2013. In April 1994, the Nigerian national football team was ranked 5th in the FIFA World Rankings, FIFA rankings, the highest FIFA ranking position ever achieved by an African football team. Throughout history, the team has qualified for six of the last eight FIFA World Cups, missing only the 2006 FIFA World Cup, 2006 and 2022 FIFA World Cup, 2022 editions. SV Eintracht Trier 05 is a German association football club based in Trier, Rhineland-Palatinate. It was formed on 11 March 1948 out of the merger of Westmark 05 Trier and Eintracht Trier 06, on the 43rd anniversary of the establishment of predecessor Trier Fußball Club 05. The team badge incorporates Trier's most famous landmark, the Porta Nigra, an ancient Roman city gate still standing in Germany's oldest city. In the 2020-21 season the team was in 1st place in the Oberliga Rheinland-Pfalz/Saar, however due to the COVID-19 pandemic the season was cut short. Because not enough regular season games were played, no Oberliga teams were promoted to the Regionalliga. An association football tournament was played as part of the 1988 Summer Olympics. The tournament featured 16 men's national teams from six continental confederations. The teams were drawn into four groups of four with each group playing a round-robin tournament. At the end of the group stage, the top two teams advanced to the knockout stage, beginning with the quarter-finals and culminating with the gold medal match at the Seoul Olympic Stadium on 1 October 1988. Before the final match, the Soviets relocated from the Olympic Village to Soviet steamship stationed nearby. After winning the gold medal, each player from the Soviet team received 15 thousand dollars from the Soviet government.
