Manfred H. Grieb
Manfred H. Grieb (6 February 1933 – 20 February 2012) what a German entrepreneur and art collector as well as the editor of the ''Nürnberger Künstlerlexikon''. Life Born in Würzburg, Grieb completed a commercial apprenticeship from 1947 to 1950 and learned foreign languages at language institutes and as a guest student at the University of Würzburg. From 1951 to 1969 he worked as an employed merchant in Germany and South America. In 1969 he started self-employment with a small chain of shops and a printing shop for greeting cards, gift articles, stationery and others (company "karten-vitrine"). After the sale of his company in 1992, he worked as an art collector (Nuremberg city views) and gallery owner. ("Fränkische Bilder-Galerie Grieb & Popp OHG") and worked on the four-volume ''Nürnberger Künstlerlexikon'' with over 20,000 entries, which quickly became a standard work on the history of the city of Nuremberg after its publication in 2007. The ''Nürnberger Künstlerlexikon'' with the undertitle ''Bildende Kunst, Kunsthandwerker, Gelehrte, Sammler, Kulturschaffende und Mäzene vom 12. bis zur Mitte des 20. Jahrhunderts'' is a biographical dictionary on the art of the city Nuremberg. The encyclopaedia, edited by Manfred H. Grieb and written by him with the collaboration of numerous specialist scholars, was published in 2007 in four volumes in a slidecase by K. G. Saur Verlag. At the same time, the work was published in PDF by Verlag Walter de Gruyter, to which K. G. Saur Verlag has belonged since 2006. Nuremberg ( ; german: link=no, Nürnberg ; in the local East Franconian dialect: ''Nämberch'' ) is the second-largest city of the German state of Bavaria after its capital Munich, and its 518,370 (2019) inhabitants make it the 14th-largest city in Germany. Pegnesischer Blumenorden
The (English: Pegnitz Flower Society; Latin: ; abbr. P.Bl.O.) is a German literary society that was founded in Nuremberg in 1644. It is the sole Baroque literary society that remains active today. The name derived from the river Pegnitz, which flows through Nuremberg. History The Society was founded in 1644 by the poets Georg Philipp Harsdörffer and Johann Klaj on the model of the (Fruitbearing Society). Members called themselves ' (Pegnitz shepherds). The stated goal of the society was the "support and improvement of German language and poetry." After the deaths of Klaj and Harsdörffer (1656, 1658, resp.), Sigmund von Birken revived the Society and became its director until his death in 1681.
