Maneuver Center Of Excellence
Fort Moore was the second of two historic Fortification#Forts, U.S. Military Forts in Los Angeles, Los Angeles, California, during the Mexican–American War. It lay straight above the junction of the Hollywood Freeway and Broadway, on an historic hill that once sheltered the Los Angeles Plaza, old Plaza. The landmark hill took its name, Fort Hill, from the first fort, and the hill afforded sweeping views of the Olvera Street, old adobe town and the vineyards in the swale of the Los Angeles River. Fort Hill was a spur of the ridge that runs from the Quarry Hills (Elysian Park) southward to Prudent Beaudry, Beaudry’s Bunker Hill; it originally stretched east between 1st Street and Ord Street. In old photographs, it forms a backdrop just behind the La Iglesia de Nuestra Señora la Reina de los Ángeles, Plaza Church and square. By 1949, what was left of the hill under the fort was cut down when the Hollywood Freeway was put through. However, not all the hill was bulldozed, but s ...

Ultimatum
An ultimatum (; ) is a demand whose fulfillment is requested in a specified period of time and which is backed up by a threat to be followed through in case of noncompliance (open loop). An ultimatum is generally the final demand in a series of requests. As such, the time allotted is usually short, and the request is understood not to be open to further negotiation. The threat which backs up the ultimatum can vary depending on the demand in question and on the other circumstances. This opens up a variet ...

Sandbag
A sandbag or dirtbag is a bag or sack made of hessian (burlap), polypropylene or other sturdy materials that is filled with sand or soil and used for such purposes as flood control, military fortification in trenches and bunkers, shielding glass windows in war zones, ballast, counterweight, and in other applications requiring mobile fortification, such as adding improvised additional protection to armored vehicles or tanks. The advantages are that the bags and sand are inexpensive. When empty, the bags are compact and lightweight for easy storage and transportation. They can be brought to a site empty and filled with local sand or soil. Disadvantages are that filling bags is labor-intensive. Without proper training, sandbag walls can be constructed improperly causing them to fail at a lower height than expected, when used in flood-control purposes. They can degrade prematurely in the sun and elements once deployed. They can also become contaminated by sewage in flood waters ma ...
