Mandla Msomi
Mandla David Msomi (born 25 December 1950) is a South African politician and businessman. He represented the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) in the National Assembly from 1994 to 2004, and during that time he chaired the Portfolio Committee on Public Enterprises from 1994 to 1999. Legislative career: 1994–2004 Msomi was first elected to the National Assembly in the 1994 general election. He was narrowly re-elected to a second term in the National Assembly in 1999, serving the KwaZulu-Natal constituency. During the first democratic Parliament from 1994 to 1999, Msomi chaired Parliament's Portfolio Committee on Public Enterprises, and he remained an ordinary member of the committee during his second term. He also chaired the Durban-based Empowerment Trust during his time in Parliament, until it was liquidated. Inkatha Freedom Party
The Inkatha Freedom Party ( zu, IQembu leNkatha yeNkululeko, IFP) is a right-wing political party in South Africa. The party has been led by Velenkosini Hlabisa since the party's 2019 National General Conference. Mangosuthu Buthelezi founded the party in 1975 and led it until 2019. The IFP is currently the fourth largest party in the National Assembly of South Africa, in 2014 yielding third place to the Economic Freedom Fighters, formed in 2013. Although registered as a national party, it has had only minor electoral success outside its home province of KwaZulu-Natal. Richard Calland
Richard J. T. Calland (born 10 July, 1964) is a British-South African writer and political analyst. Calland is Associate Professor of Public Law at the University of Cape Town and a Fellow of the Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership. He is a co-Director of Sustainability Education and has been a columnist for the ''Mail & Guardian'' since 2001. Biography Education Calland read Law at Durham University (Hatfield College) and was called to the bar at Lincoln's Inn in 1987. 2004 South African General Election
General elections were held in South Africa on Wednesday, 14 April 2004. The African National Congress (ANC) of President Thabo Mbeki, which came to power after the end of the apartheid system in 1994, was re-elected with an increased majority. These were the third elections held since the end of the apartheid era. The South African National Assembly consists of 400 members, elected by proportional representation. 200 members are elected from national party lists, the other 200 are elected from party lists in each of the nine provinces. The President of South Africa is chosen by the National Assembly after each election. Tony Yengeni
Tony Sithembiso Yengeni (born 11 October 1954) is a South African politician. He was an anti-Apartheid activist and joined the African National Congress (ANC) in 1976 and later its armed wing, Umkhonto we Sizwe. From 1994 until 2003 he served as member of the South African parliament for the ruling ANC party, including service as their Chief Whip. In 2003, he was found guilty of fraud in a case linked to the corruption investigation into an arms deal, but he remained an ANC party stalwart. In 2018, he was made the chairperson of the ANC's crime and corruption committee. He was sentenced to four years in prison, but only served four months, for getting an unlawful discount on a Mercedes Benz he purchased. The Independent Democrats (ID) was a South African political party, formed by former Pan Africanist Congress member Patricia de Lille in 2003 via floor crossing legislation. The party's platform was premised on opposition to corruption, with a mixture of liberal principles and strategies for improving equity. The party's strongholds were the Northern and Western Cape. On 15 August 2010, the party announced plans to merge with the larger Democratic Alliance as part of a plan to challenge the governing African National Congress (ANC). Patricia de Lille (née Lindt; born 17 February 1951) is a South African politician who is the current Minister of Public Works and Infrastructure and leader of the political party Good. She was previously Mayor of Cape Town from 2011 to 2018, and Western Cape Provincial Minister of Social Development from 2010 to 2011. She founded and led the Independent Democrats (ID), a political party which she formed in 2003 during a floor-crossing window, after she broke away from the Pan Africanist Congress (PAC). United Democratic Movement
The United Democratic Movement (UDM) is a centre-left, social-democratic, South African political party, formed by a prominent former National Party leader, Roelf Meyer (who has since resigned from the UDM), a former African National Congress and Transkei homeland leader, General Bantu Holomisa, and a former ANC Executive Committee member, John Taylor. The Mercedes-Benz E-Class is a range of executive cars manufactured by German automaker Mercedes-Benz in various engine and body configurations.
